Recognizing and Dealing with
Cabin Fever
Symptoms
Not everyone suffering from cabin fever will experience exactly the same symptoms, but many people report feeling intensely irritable or restless. Other commonly experienced effects are:
• Restlessness
• Lethargy
• Sadness or depression
• Trouble concentrating
• Lack of patience
• Food cravings
• Decreased motivation
• Social Isolation
• Difficulty waking
• Frequent napping
• Hopelessness
• Changes in weight
• Inability to cope with stress
Note that these symptoms may also be indicative of a wide range of other disorders, and only a trained mental health professional can make an accurate diagnosis. In addition, not
everyone who fears being cooped up at home in the winter has cabin fever. Only when
someone exhibits several of the symptoms mentioned above is a phobia more likely.
Helping The Self:
The Main Big Three are Self care.
(Eat Healthy, Exercise and adequate sleep.)
Get out of the house.
If this one is doable for you in terms of where you live and the
climate, any time spent outside in nature is always highly recommended.

Exercise.
Physical activity is extremely beneficial for our mental health, so whether
you’re able to get your heart rate up outside or inside (think yoga, indoor sports or
even hitting the pool at your local rec center), exercise is sure to help boost your
mood this time of year. The endorphin rush you get from exercise can be invaluable
for managing stress, improving your mood and even boosting your immunity.
If you can safely go outside while you exercise, that’s even better.
Partake in some Spring Cleaning.
Take advantage of being stuck indoors and
motivate yourself to finally clean out your closet – or organize your study, or re
arrange the excess junk in your kitchen. No matter the project, cleaning and
organizing is a great way to exercise, find extra things to donate (altruistic behaviors
boost our sense of mood and happiness) and de-clutter your mental space, in
addition to the physical one
Books, Projects, Hobbies.
There are plenty of ways to counter boredom when your
outdoor activity options are limited. Get creative! Find new books to read, start a
craft project, a home project or a self-care project (think vision boards or gratitude
journals) and kill time by exercising your mind and spirit muscles, if not the body
Stick to a Routine.
Research shows that having a regular routine in terms of work,
sleep and other aspects of your daily life can prove extremely helpful and
therapeutic when it comes to cabin fever. Try to maintain your healthy habits as best
as possible.

Connect with Others.
Social isolation is at the core of cabin fever, but luckily for us,
technology and social media means we’re never truly alone! Pick up the phone, get
on skype or connect with people through Facebook, Instagram or twitter. Face-to
face contact is ideal so throw a dinner party and invite friends over to enjoy a large
pot of warm turkey chili and some new games .

Allow yourself to feel your feelings.
What we resist persists. When we give ourselves permission to feel the full range of our emotions, and validate that what we’re feeling makes sense, emotions dissipate much faster.
Journal.
Spend five to 10 minutes every day writing freeform.
Meditate.
This is one of the absolute best things you can do for your mental health.
Seek other sources of connection.
Reach out to friends and relatives,
without your partner by your side.

247 With Each Other
How to Help Your Relationship Survive Cabin Fever?Love is 24/7, but usually our days together are not. Cabin fever may not be viral, but it is real: if we don’t take proactive steps to keep our relationships healthy, they could buckle under the pressure.

The strain that the coronavirus is putting on our lives is immense. And it is affecting most relationships in some way. It makes perfect sense to be struggling in your relationship now. We’re stuck inside our homes, forced to spend more time together than ever before.

We’re relying on a partner for almost all of our social support because we can’t see our friends or relatives. We’re balancing new responsibilities like working from home, child care or housekeeping.

It’s undoubtedly a lot of change all at once. At the same time, some
people feel guilty acknowledging their relationship woes because it seems as if there
are much bigger issues to worry about.
It’s OK to acknowledge the ways your relationship is being affected by the
coronavirus crisis. Try these tips for supporting your relationship during these tough
times.
  • Make a plan
Sit down with your partner to discuss everything that’s on your plate, and make a
plan for how you’re going to handle it as a team. Create a shared calendar with all of
your tasks and responsibilities, and carve out specific times for when you’re going to
do them.
Have a brief weekly meeting every Sunday to anticipate the week ahead — schedule and map out as much as you can. Try a quick meeting at the end of each day to discuss the plan for the next day. There are so many things that we can’t control now, but it can feel soothing to have a plan for the things that are in our control.
Planning meals, scheduling exercise times, devoting specific hours to work or outlining a plan of attack for a DIY project, can restore some semblance of normalcy to your otherwise-upended life. While this advice may seem simple, our brains love—and even crave—structure, and the grounding effects of routines are powerful.
  • Check in with each other daily
Planning for the next day is one thing, but it is also important to remember that your
partner is not a robot and probably experiencing the same range of emotions that you
are. It can be useful to stop and ask each other questions like:
• “What was your day like today?”
• “What sorts of feelings are coming up for you right now?”
• “Are there any ways I can support you or be a better partner to you?”
  • Be intentional about time spent together
You’re probably spending more time together than ever before. As much as you love
your partner, this can quickly lead to tension and frustration. Set some healthy
boundaries:
• If you’re both working from home, carve out separate work spaces. If you can
close a door between the two of you, that’s ideal.
• Try to give each other space during the day. If you can, limit your verbal communication. Try texting instead.
• It’s normal to need alone time. Be creative about how you can carve out that time. For example, maybe you can trade off taking the morning shift with the children so you give each other the chance to lie in bed alone for a few precious moments.
• Be creative with date nights. Sticking to (or starting) a date night tradition can bring some much-needed joy and anticipation into your relationship. Try visiting a museum online, reading a book to each other or cooking an elaborate meal together.
  • Practice appreciation and gratitude
These next few weeks and months are going to be a challenge for everyone. None of
us are going to be perfect partners. Do your best and thank each other for being
willing to make an effort. Tell your partner: “I see all the work you’ve been doing.
Thank you.” As challenging as everything is at this time, there’s also a lot to be
grateful for. Try to share a few things you’re grateful for every few days. The more
gratitude you express, the more often you’ll find yourself noticing little moments to
appreciate. And we could all use more of those now.
To add to this already heavy list of worries, many of us aren’t used to spending so much time at home every day with our partner, even when a crisis isn’t in the mix.
  • Carve Out Alone Time
Couples thrive when there’s a healthy balance between time spent together and time spent
apart. However, due to the COVID-19 lock down, creating separate spaces is now more
difficult than ever. Still, it’s important to physically remove yourself from your partner for an
hour or two each day. Go into your backyard, your child’s bedroom, your home office—
anywhere where you can carve out some alone time. If you live in a studio or loft where there are no real walls, create zones for each other and retreat to your separate corners. No matter your living situation, the essential ingredient is communicating when you need alone time, as this is likely to be different every day. And when your partner requests a similar break, honor it.
  • Remember, No One Is Perfect
Has your partner been moodier than usual? On edge? Lethargic? Overly frenetic? In times of prolonged stress or alarm, mood swings are common, and the COVID-19 pandemic is all the more difficult because it’s something we’ve never faced before. We’re all flying blind on this one.
If your partner’s behavior has been unusual, give extra attention to their mood, and remember not to internalize it or read into it. If you’re concerned you’ve somehow triggered them emotionally, simply ask directly and calmly. If they say their mood has nothing to do with you, believe it. Everyone will react to this rapidly shifting landscape in their own unique way, and it’s not your job to jump into your partner’s brain and determine their thoughts. We are all stressed these days and have a responsibility to manage our behaviors, but no one is perfect. Remember that.

Chapter 55
(recommended by others)
1for1 Lunch deal. Limited only to 1-1 Page. Weekday Only
Primarily for Italian coffee/pizzas/pastas and Gelato.

*Practicing social distancing to a degree. Limiting the number of people coming in as well as temperature and contact tracing on going.*
Click here for Location of Chapter 55

Chapter 55 is located along the main road and pretty much a stone's throw away from foodie market and foodie hawker center at Tiong Bahru Market.
Ordered On:
28March2020
 Cabonara SGD17.80
*Pretty standard fare. It could be because of the 1 for 1 deal that the ingredients was a little light but a decently prepared Cabonara.
 Bismarck SGD24.80
(Ham Cheese and Egg)
A little on the salty side and took about 30mins to arrive due to the large large crowd and influx of orders. Supply & Demand's Morning after does it way better and a great photogenic spot of MBS and the city skyline. Luka also does great pizzas.
Waffles with Banana and choice of two ice creams. SGD18.80
A very respectable serving portion but pricing was a little steep. Apart from the waffles, the additional fan fare like cornflakes, popcorn didn't add much to the dish. Wildseed's waffles and toppings with intention and in my books still the best waffles had. Light, fluffy and excellent toppings for a (at point of review) cheaper asking price.
Total Fed 2 at SGD51.32
 Ambience 3.5/5
*The place could use a little more cohesion. There was a chandelier that stood out from the rest of the decor and the wall mural a little out there. But the whole place had a nice sorta vibe to it. Kinda works.*
Service 4/5*Even thou service was backed up, staff were forth coming and updated on orders with explanation without being prompted too. They also updated on cook times for the deserts so as to time the delivery of the finale.*
Food 3.5/5
Value 4/5 for lunch deal. 3.5/5 for regular menu
*Fairly standard pricing*
Pretty nice place in the heart of Tiong Bahru. Parking maybe limited in the area, but its nice to explore the streets with a mix of boutique shops and old favorites. Great value for lunch deals.

Koma Singapore
(located at MBS Singapore)
Seemed very nice from friends visiting the place as well.
Personally was drawn into the decor alone but didn't really read up on the rest of it.

From the exterior it was extremely unassuming but perhaps that was the whole effect they were going for. As one walks through the red gates, Koma expands into this beautiful wide space with amazing decoration and interior. Unfortunately this was the only high light for the night.

Ordered On:
20March2020

 Unagi Truffle Roll SGD25
*First dish came really fast in about 5mins after having sat down. And the wait from dish one to the next was a good 25mins wait. Simple fair that felt almost ready made unagi slapped atop a basic made Maki. The premium goes to the truffle which did shine but that's about it. Premium product over a basic tasting seemingly per-prepared unagi on Maki.*
Daily Special Broiled Kimidai SGD45

*Was quite reluctant to wait for the second dish as it was such a long wait in between. We went for the Kimidai a seasonal, red deep-sea fish. For the pricing, one would expect a whole head probably. On flavor and texture alone, the fish was enjoyable but for value, it fell way short.*
Total Fed 2 SGD82.39

Food 3.5/5
*The Kimidai was nicely prepared but the Unagi felt like basic product slapped on with premium topping and finished off with a price tag.
Serivce 1.5/5
 *Really bad service experience.
Visited on a Friday with low crowd numbers and staffers were plenty.
Staff-centric? Anyone would want a picture at the iconic red gates, but staff walked through the shot rather than allow patrons to have a picture taken. (Note that this was low crowd and still early in the evening at 6pm.)

Staff knew the menu but was rattling what was recommended. Staff wasn't going through the menu and instead of directing patrons to the order of say Yellow Tail as printed, staff reiterated as Hamachi. If one didn't draw the co-relation, patrons would be thoroughly confused with what is what.
Given the fine establishment and premium paid, its a takes away from the dining experience that  service staff were conversing in native tongue within ear shots of guests.

Food pacing within dishes was way too long in between dishes. 25mins.
Value 2/5
Ambience 4/5
It does give that wow factor, with the small entrance opening up the huge interior space which was a visual spectacle. Grand for some, but maybe a bit isolated and non-cozy for some if seated in the middle of the dining area.
Won't be coming back anytime. A disappointment and huge let down in the evening. In fact had second meal at Toast Box there after. Was trying for Black Tap but the place had a queue.

Have only been disappointed by a meal two other times such as this. The first in HKG for some famed crab porridge at Chi Ji Wan Tan Mee, and another con-job of lobster risotto in BCN in Suamu Bar. This definitely joins that list as the number three. Even the dry aged duck from Perth Wild Flower was a far more superior dining experience with the view, service and dish itself which out prices the Kimidai served here. In my opinion, avoid.

Instaworthy place, falls flat on service and overall dining experience. Food was so-so but unfairly based on just these two orders.

Ribs & Burgers
Open Sun-Thur 11hrs-2130hrs
Fri-Sat 1100hrd-2200hrs
*Had star it before on the maps but never had the chance to check it out. Located along William’s street, Ribs and Burgers came recommended for their burgers over the ribs.*

 Ordered On:
03March2020
Mighty Bacon & Cheese
1/4Angus patty, bacob, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, BBQ & pink sauce. 17.90AUD
Additional serve of fries for AUD4.90.

*Went straight for the most deluxe, all-in version. I must say the counter staff sells em burgers well.*
The burger is really juicy and has that amazing char flavor. The patty serving size for the Mighty burger series is very respectable and juicy.
However, what worked against the burger was that the patty itself lacked seasoning, and the bacon was too over powering with its saltiness. The rest of the compliments were really nice, and pretty much standard fare. Fries were alright. Best fries to be found is still at Grill'd
Its still a good burger, but I'd say the place still looses out by order of Rankings Pearl's Deluxe, followed by Super Duper(SFO) and Shake Shack. Best burger still reigning supreme is still Burger House in Munich.
Ambience 4/5
*Nice, chill place. Music wasn’t too loud and its got lots of windows for natural lighting to shine in.*

Service 4/5
*Staff were really tentative and quick to notice and ask if you needed anything. They have self service condiment and tap water bar which was extremely welcoming.*

Value 4/5
*Largely because of the free flow condiments and tap water. This is a rarity in other Burger joints which charge by the dipping. The serving size especially and if you go for their standard sized burgers its about 12AUD or so.*
Food 3.5/5

Good value burger. Some elements over powered it and would have gone better without. Probably worthwhile to try their lamb burgers as well as their classics which go for cheaper. Great value burger joint in a nice environment with attentive service. Can return to try their lamb and classic burgers. Ribs reported good too but yet to try.

Izakaya located down the basement beside family mart.

A small homely Izakaya with value Omakase (chef’s choice) at ¥2500/pax when we visited. Their hotpots are reportedly good too! Yet to try.
Ordered On:
19Feb2020

5 Course Omakase excluding appetizer
Tofu curd shashimi (table charge appetizer)
Course 1 and 2 with seasonal vegetables

Overall it was a really pleasant dining experience especially with the chef watching the flow of the meal and serving up the next dish one after the other.
All dishes served were really good and special standouts to me were the vegetable tempura as well as the seasonal vegetable appetizers. One really gets to enjoy the sweetness and taste of the various vegetables to the highest degree. The generous serving size of the finale fish was flaky and well broiled. A great value Omakase experience.

Value 4/5
Ambience 3.55

Value and nice atmosphere. Unfortunately there’s no English menu or picture menu. Let him know you’re from Singapore and request for Omakase you’d like to try home style eats. Alternatively, one can try their hotpot which seems to be also one of his specialty.
