(Traditonal Northern Cuisine and visited by George Bush.Sr)"Having started as a food stand in Kaohsiung in 1949 and moved to Taipei in the 1960s, the family-run Beijing Do It True is a local legend. It boasts a culinary heritage from a famed relative who served as an imperial chef for Empress Dowager Cixi (慈禧太后) and it has been visited by movers and shakers of the political world such as former US president George H.W. Bush, former premier Sun Yun-suan (孫運璿), and Wego Chiang (蔣緯國), Chiang Kai-shek’s (蔣介石) second son." - Taipei Times

Arrived at 1845hrs and already there’s a waiting queue. Without reservation on a weekend is hard to get a seating at this traditional northern cuisine.

Their signature
Braised pork
*Soft and tender but on the very salty side. It NEEDS to be complemented with the plain, dry sesame bun*
Sesame seed coated bun.
*To be had with the braised pork. Its like eating dry army rations. It helps make the salty braised pork palatable.*
Local sour soup
*Interesting but will probably pass on it. The sourness is there and goes oddly on its own.
Signature shrimp and pork wrapped fritter

*Another signature that's recommended.  Pretty okay and flavors as described with the fillings. Nothing outstanding.*
Stir fried vegetable medley topped with egg

*by far the best dish of the night which is kind of disappointing to think about it. Simple home cooked dish. Nothing special but very enjoyable.*

Food was alright at best. It wasn’t inspiring to order more and pretty much went else where for dessert. Maybe being unaccustomed to the local pallet. You can't get a seating on a weekend without a reservation.

Mango shaved ice but mango had sold out so they serve it with choice of fruit.
We went with the honey dew.

*A Huge portion. A single serving is a bit too much and rich for one to finish. The shaved ice/syrup is so smooth and fluffy like eating fresh snow.*
Ginger soup with mochi balls in peanut and brown syrup.
*Nice mochi textures. The ginger soup was amazing. I suspect they either cook up fresh, fragrant ginger to extract the most of the warming flavors. Goes very well with the Mochi Balls and peanut dusting.

Pretty alright. The portions are huge and you really got to share. Two desserts could have actually fed 2 or 3 lighter eaters. The smooth shaved ice did get boring after awhile.

Using Wing Kee noodles in Hong Kong as a comparative benchmark, Huangjia Beef Noodle's beef and tendons are superior to that of Wing Kee's. Further more depending on your pallet, the soup in Taiwan aren't as intensely flavored. I'd say almost on par but Wing Kee has more than just beef ingredients for offer and 30% cheaper. Good meal but feels a little bit pricey. The table side free flow Kiam Chye (Pickled vegetables) and chilli are big ups for this place)

新光三 District

The main shopping district that's located just a stone's throw away from Taipei 101. Your usual cosmopolitan shopping and variety of eats.

Its perhaps more lively on the weekends due to the number of baskers along the streets, entertaining to much delight of the local populous. Fun entertainment with trendy eats. Not much by way of local pop-up stalls and street food over here.

Good deals for SD cards and other stuff. Prices of SD cards can vary by 200 to 300NT for say something like a 64G Transcend Class 10 UHC 1 card. So be patient and walk around and ask.
Colour printer ink goes for NT100 per refill bottle of normal size which is sold for about S$10 in Singapore.
