*Some of their standouts were their blue swimmer crabs and hokkien mee (to good standard). The crabs were uniquely done in both not-so-spicy white pepper crab sauce, and a mild Thai Yellow Curry.*
*The sirloin beef also well prepared and their dessert get a shout out too, especially the Avocado gelato which was smooth, creamy and a winner!*
*Its nice to see classic Nonya desserts thrown into the mix*

(Crew were relatively inexperienced. Visited on a Monday and request for cutlery and bill took a long time to come around, considering the restaurant was not at full capacity.
Food 3.5/5
*The prawns especially so weren't that fresh. A small selection but well curated.

Value 4/5
*Because of the 1for1 deal. Fed 2+1child at 52SGD each all in.
3/5 if at regular retail price.

A small but relatively well curated selection of eats. The prawns, we felt weren't that fresh as the shells didn't just slide of the meat. The lobsters here aren't as plump or juicy as had in other locations, but still enjoyable. The standout are as mentioned and it has a good spread with a nice view of the city center from the near panoramic view from the 32nd floor.

Beef Bone Soup
9000SRW (about10SGD)

*The flavors aren't overly strong. Could have done better with more meat perhaps, but the free flow kimchi sides were always welcoming. The pepper and salt dip really brings out the fall of the bone, tender beef meat. Nice warming meal that serves as a light to just nice meal.*
Total 9000SKW per person
Food 3.5/5

Value 4/5

*For the asking price in a sit down venue with the free add-ons makes this place more worth while over the food court. A light meal, fantastic for the price.*
Ambience 3/5

Never did check out price ranges or options beyond the food court, but perhaps at par or more competitive and offering full table side meal service with their side dish top-ups and water. Worth the exploration.

Le Vietnam
20m from QT Hotel
Recommended by K.B

Opens daily from 0730am-3pm.Closed Sun
Gets really crowded daily around 12.30pm with long queues out the front door.

Located just around the corner from QT hotel, is this small, hole in the wall Banh Mi Joint that serves up fresh, light french loaf breads with an assortment of classical and supped up Banh Mi options. Go early as lunch queues around 12.30pm  are insanely long.
Ordered On:
08Nov2019

Crispy Roast Pork AUD10

It was gooooood. It is filling but not really to the point that it was a chore to finish. The bread isn't as dry as had in Hanoi another famous Banh Mi. Supped up ingredients with the great mix of freshness and herbs. Fantastic! If I were to go for another round of orders, the Original and 4 Little Pigs read to be really mouthwatering. The place serves Vietnamese coffee as well but have yet to try as to see how it matches up against, much loved Pho Tan Hoa's (SFO) black drip ice coffee

Excellent hole in the wall place for quick, good, value city eat. Similar to another much beloved The Middle East Cafe in Auckland. Would have gone back for another meal for dinner or something but unfortunately they close at 3pm.
Food 4/5
*The loaf of bread was really quite light. Fresh, chilled ingredients gave that pop to contrast the warm pork. Great mix of flavors.*
Service 4/5

*The guy running the front of house was super friendly in explaining the menu, and quick to top up drinks and help up where needed. Plus had a $1 off due happy Friday if that's even a thing.*
Ambience 3.5/5
Value 4/5
*A somewhere in between meal. Not so light, like a snack, nor too heavy to finish. Great value for the asking price*

Smashed Avo AUD21
Avocado+Edamame+lemon+Pecorino+Mary Street Bakery Sourdough
3/5
*Surprisingly filling. You get a mountain of avocado but it could have popped more with some salt and more pomegranate. The sour dough's excellent but its a very 'healthy' meal and good have better flavor enhancers to make the dish pop.*
Margarita
3/5
*Nothing special. Good char, but was hoping for tomato slices and the cheese to shine through more. Probably go for the pepperoni one next time. Could have used some tobasco.*

Ordered On:

Double Fried Chicken Burger 28AUD
Buttermilk-fried crispy chicken, milk bun, spicy mayo, pickles, red cabbage slaw, sweet potato fries, aioli dipping sauce

*Meh. Can't really taste the garlic from the Aioli dipping sauce. The milk bun was very nice, but over all the burger was on the salty side. The sweet potato fries fairly decent. A very filling meal. Wouldn't say amazing, wouldn't say its that bad.*
Ordered On:
08Nov2019

Red pepper Garlic Shrimp Pizza, Dried Chilli, Dandelion, Lemon RRP29AUD
AUD20 After crew discount no tray charge!

 Food 3.5/5
Very filling serving size. Value Pizza that's done very well and served almost instantly (less than 15mins when ordered at 6pm). Dough has that nice char from probably a wood oven pizza. Toppings were nice and good flavor profiles. Dough wasn't too heavy and as good as or even better than your run of the mill pizza joints in Italy. Good, fresh pizza that I'd say comparable to Wildwood (London), which is another great value Pizza joint

(Traditonal Northern Cuisine and visited by George Bush.Sr)"Having started as a food stand in Kaohsiung in 1949 and moved to Taipei in the 1960s, the family-run Beijing Do It True is a local legend. It boasts a culinary heritage from a famed relative who served as an imperial chef for Empress Dowager Cixi (慈禧太后) and it has been visited by movers and shakers of the political world such as former US president George H.W. Bush, former premier Sun Yun-suan (孫運璿), and Wego Chiang (蔣緯國), Chiang Kai-shek’s (蔣介石) second son." - Taipei Times

Arrived at 1845hrs and already there’s a waiting queue. Without reservation on a weekend is hard to get a seating at this traditional northern cuisine.

Their signature
Braised pork
*Soft and tender but on the very salty side. It NEEDS to be complemented with the plain, dry sesame bun*
Sesame seed coated bun.
*To be had with the braised pork. Its like eating dry army rations. It helps make the salty braised pork palatable.*
Local sour soup
*Interesting but will probably pass on it. The sourness is there and goes oddly on its own.
Signature shrimp and pork wrapped fritter

*Another signature that's recommended.  Pretty okay and flavors as described with the fillings. Nothing outstanding.*
Stir fried vegetable medley topped with egg

*by far the best dish of the night which is kind of disappointing to think about it. Simple home cooked dish. Nothing special but very enjoyable.*

Food was alright at best. It wasn’t inspiring to order more and pretty much went else where for dessert. Maybe being unaccustomed to the local pallet. You can't get a seating on a weekend without a reservation.

Mango shaved ice but mango had sold out so they serve it with choice of fruit.
We went with the honey dew.

*A Huge portion. A single serving is a bit too much and rich for one to finish. The shaved ice/syrup is so smooth and fluffy like eating fresh snow.*
Ginger soup with mochi balls in peanut and brown syrup.
*Nice mochi textures. The ginger soup was amazing. I suspect they either cook up fresh, fragrant ginger to extract the most of the warming flavors. Goes very well with the Mochi Balls and peanut dusting.

Pretty alright. The portions are huge and you really got to share. Two desserts could have actually fed 2 or 3 lighter eaters. The smooth shaved ice did get boring after awhile.

Using Wing Kee noodles in Hong Kong as a comparative benchmark, Huangjia Beef Noodle's beef and tendons are superior to that of Wing Kee's. Further more depending on your pallet, the soup in Taiwan aren't as intensely flavored. I'd say almost on par but Wing Kee has more than just beef ingredients for offer and 30% cheaper. Good meal but feels a little bit pricey. The table side free flow Kiam Chye (Pickled vegetables) and chilli are big ups for this place)

新光三 District

The main shopping district that's located just a stone's throw away from Taipei 101. Your usual cosmopolitan shopping and variety of eats.

Its perhaps more lively on the weekends due to the number of baskers along the streets, entertaining to much delight of the local populous. Fun entertainment with trendy eats. Not much by way of local pop-up stalls and street food over here.
