The Muffin Man Teashop

As the name suggest, it is a tea shop. It has that old charm about it with claming colors on the inside. Home-style cakes to be served with simple breakfast.

Ordered on:
27Dec22

Just to try what its all about. Was told go for their scones over their muffins which were in their name. Verdict average.
GBP5.05 or SGD8 for that!
Food 3/5
Service 3/5

*Not that friendly and more begrudging to get orders in*
Value 1.5/5
Ambience 3/5
Probably a wrong order. The scones was a charge with additional for the cream and jam. Its most likely for the popularity of it all that the place is constantly packed but wouldn't bother with a freshly toasted scone which though nice am pretty sure can be gotten elsewhere.

The following feels reminisce of Mama's on Washington Square (SFO) which is far superior. For just simple bread and jam, Cliff House(SFO) wins over Mama's and here hands down. Further more its complementary with the food orders.

The Mayfair Chippy, Michelin Guide recommended and won some Fish and Chips awards. Conveniently located just around from Primark and Selfridges The Mayfair Chippy is a great location for an afternoon meal for some classic British fair for (Pre/post shopping eats)
Free Wifi Located on Site and the place does fill up very quickly. Opens at 12pm/11am on weekends but takeaways orders start at 11.30am.
Ordered On:
20Feb2018
Crisp salmon crackling 3pounds

*A total waste of time. Its just really thin dried out salmon skins that are unseasoned. Add salt and pepper to taste.*
Mayfair Classic
Fried Haddock, chips, mushy peas, tartar and chip shop curry sauce or HP Gravy.
15.75pounds

*This was their classic order. I was recommended Haddock for its stronger, bold flavors.
The presentation was beautiful and I especially loved the pea tendrils and abundance of sauce selection that came with. The classic mushy peas are the best had thus far with varied texture and well seasoned. The batter isn't crispy but the fish is fresh and well prepared. The chips though fluffy on the inside lacked the crispy crunchy exterior which in other establishments hit it spot on. All in all it is a worth while place to have fish and chips, especially pre or post shopping. Where in its sauce, presentation and mushy peas it excelled, it may loose out to Hobson's Fish and Chips in other their Fries and Crisp exterior. Below are other excellent fish and chips shops that you maybe interested in.

Steak eggs and Chips 14.50Pounds

*Nothing special really and fries were honestly a little soggy.*
The Ivy Soho Shepard's Pie 13.50pounds
Slow Braised lamb shoulder with beef and Cheddar Potato mash

*Their signature dish that they've been preparing for years. The portion is a little bit small, however it is a slightly different take on a sheard's pie. Strong, rich flavors that was actually pretty good.
 Chocolate Bombe 8.50Euro
Melting Chocolate Bombe with a vanilla ice cream and honeycomb center with salted caramel sauce.

*Another signature that came recommended. Its worth it to come here just for this dessert. We didn't get a chance to record the sphere imploding under the hot salted caramel sauce, but the flavors worked beautifully together and the pop rocks surprise in the dessert was amazing! A must try!*Ambience 3.5/5

Fed 2 Total about 20.10 Pounds per person.
Its a nice fancy place with attentive staff waiting the tables. The mains were honestly quite average, however for the dessert, that was the star. Mains ordered by others in the restaurant looked really appetizing and maybe worth to come here in a larger group to try more options. The dessert ordered is not to be missed!
Milroy's

Milroy's is a Whisky chill out joint with a very cool secret entrance that one often sees in the movies. Anything with a secret door is just pure epic in my books and worth the check it out if you're in the area.

Bao
(Soho Branch)

Came recommended by others. 450m walk from Piccadilly Circus

Bao is a trendy/hipsterish Taiwanese bistro that has a modern take on fresh Baos using in house wheat flour and a tangzhong starter. The interior is small and has a nice Japanese feel to it.

The recommended order size is two Baos and probably one or two sides per person. There is a Lunch set menu going for £15. A discretionary service charge of 12.5% is automatically applied to each bill on check out.
Free wifi on site, tap water and a clean toilet facility.
Ordered on

Classic £4.50
Braised pork, peanut powder, fermented greens, coriander

*A twist on the classic pork and bun. The use of sugar peanut powder was nice textually and the pickled vegetables often had with Gui Chap/Teo Chew Porridge added that sharpness to balance out the pork. A very slight twist on a classic.*
Fried chicke
n £5.0
Soy Milk Marinated chicken, Sichuan Mayo, Golden Kimchi, Coriander, Sesame Bao
*Really loved this dish. Using pickled Kimchi was smart to balance the flavors with the crispy fried chicken and they all worked well together. Its a little bit spicy but a really good flavor combination*
Yalkut Float £5.50Fermanted Pineapple, Soda, Yakult Float
*Am not one for mixers usually, but the 'sourness' from the Yakult with a dash of salt played off the sweet pineapple for a refreshing drink.*
Total £16.88 fed 1

The place fills up incredibly fast. 5mins Before doors open on a Friday at 12pm, there's about 6 people in the queue. By 12.25pm the place was almost near capacity. Seating space is limited, but the Japanish cozy diner does add to the atmosphere. Go early and get a seat fast.

I'd return to try their other Baos which go more as sliders than full on burgers. The place also has sides which I didn't get a chance to try but, the Aged Beef Rump and the Peanut milk that were being served out looked like great order options as well. Asian dishes with a twist.
Flat Iron, for flank steak is located nearby.

Riding House Cafe
Originally we had wanted to try out Dolloway Terrace (pictured below) but the place was fully booked out on a weekday lunch when we arrived as off 1130am.
Thus Riding House Cafe was pretty highly ranked as a googled alternate at 4.1 out of 401 ratings, hence we gave this place a try.

Small plates to share are served in portions of three.
Ordered On:
09June2017
- Poached trout, pickled cucumber, horseradish £7

*One could easily replicate this simple dish at home. Nothing special. Poorly seasoned and please give this order a pass*
- Salt beef reuben croquettes, spicy mayo. £7
*One cant really taste the properties of the salt beef. The spicy mayo didn’t add much to the entire dish either. Simple and over priced. Even the fried leaves were a waste of time.*
- Confirt lamb borek, smoked aubergine, rose harissa £8
*none of those elements were really picked up and the smoked aubergine tasted more long the line of tandori spiced puree. *
- Slow-roasted pork belly, cumin salt £8
*One can’t really taste the cumin salt. The roasted pork belly was well prepared but it failed on the all important crispy top. Better crackle would have been better. A good dish but not amazing*
Roasted duck breast sweet potato, pak choi, pickled ginger £18.50
*The star and dish which came recommended. A nice mordern-ish take on the dish. Nicely salted crust with a rarely seen, medium rare cook on duck breast. One could really taste the use of star anise and sesame oil. The sweet potato helped balanced the dish nicely, a nice Asian take as opposed to cranberry or citrus fruits..*
Man and Cheese tried from other table

*Their mac and cheese was very well done. Great textures with some cheese crumble and fried berries of sort sprinkled on top! A good main order choice at 13.50pounds.*

Fed 4 at our table at £16 each.

The guy's verdict. Neutral/neutral/Good/Neutral
Pretty alright dining with nice decor with descent, albeit, a little on the pricier side. Located just across from The Attendant (Victorian male toilet converted into a dining cafe with good eats).

Workshop Coffee (Fitzrovia)
recommend by others as their fav coffee joint located
just around the corner to Riding House Cafe reviewed above.

Recommended order is their Latte.
Click here for ABBA location of Workshop Coffee 80 Mortimer St, Marylebone, London W1W 7FE, UK
Am personally no barista and I can't really tell what makes a great coffee, but the way this artisian shop prepares your coffee so caringly adds to the experience.

A splash of cold water to quench one's thirst whilst preparing your coffee.

We ordered a Hot Chocolate (an okay only order but best Hot Chocolate still from San Churro's and the order is the Hot Cold.), Shakerato (One shot espresso mixed with Orange flower essence which didn't really shine through), Latte and Ice Latte. Drinks go for about 3pounds and a bit.

Steak and Co
located 120m from Gloucester Hotel
Their lunch deal set

Steak and Co's signatures are pretty much their hot stone steak cuts. Their lunch deal set for steak and sides is a really good deal and for the quality maybe better priced than flat iron. Wild Wood located across the road also offers value for money lunch sets and menu prices aren't steep either!
Ordered On:
10June2017
Lamb Cutlets 17.50pounds

*An okay serving of Lamb Cutlets, the rolls royce of the lamb cuts for the price is actually a very fair deal. The medium rare cook was a bit lacking but it is still an okay serving of the lamb.*
10oz Fillet 23.50 poundsSweet Potato Fries 3.50 pounds
Onion Rings 3.50 pounds

*They can cook the steak for you, but here the same gimmick is the same as the Lava Stone in Singapore. The waiter sells it that the condiments and hot stone makes the meat taste much better. Probably the only upside is that you won't have cold steak. Down side, is that the place ventilation isn't that great so your clothes would probably smell after that. The seasoned salt was however quite enjoyable.*
Fed 2 at 25pounds each with tip.
Okay steak that isn't wow in a nice dining environment. Their lunch deals are probably better pick if you're hanking for steak.
