Like the Hokkaido Cheese Tart when it first came out, THE only thing that matters here is the Cruffin! There's even a countdown timer on their website to Cruffin Time and apparently the daily flavor changes.

Attempt one. As we arrived at 11am, there was a pretty fast moving queue for their excellent pastry selection. Unfortunately, being a weekend, the mattered Cruffin was sold out within the hour of opening! (Granted we were there on the weekend)

Attempt number two! Finally we get the Cruffin! Check the count down Cruffin Timer. They only started sales one hour after doors open.

Cruffin Rules:
- Each person is only allowed a maximum of two orders.
- There's a count down timer on their website when the cruffin's would be ready. For us was an hour after opening at 8am. Thus 9am the cruffins poured out onto the window.
- Flavors change on a daily basis so check out their website for the latest flavors.
- There's the normal queue for their pastries and the Cruffin sepcific line!

Blackberry and port Cruffin 4.5USD

*Its like a croissant exterior but the cream filling was divine.
With a hint of port encased in a flaky exterior pastry. Well worth the filling one's gotta
to come give this a try!*
Ordered on:

A medley of 6 for a box which goes for 5USD per person. 25USD total
Matcha coated croissant
Lemon Curd Filled Doughnut x2
*A nice fluffy doughnut with a nice smooth curd filling. I don't think it was lemon curd but it did taste very nice and not overly heavy like Krispy Kreme doughnuts.*

Japanese Flavored croissant
*Its got pickled ginger and wasabi in it. Not the favored one and in fact left a little bit behind.*
Savoury blue cheese and bacon danish bread
*The one that most felt was the best selection and went on to buy some for a takeaway.*
Dirty Monkey Apple Pie
*Apple pie was nice and a toss up between bread butter pudding and apple pie! A lovely small treat!*

Fed5 25USD total
Great pastry with light flaky croissants. Bakers out there would probably give a big thumbs up to this place but the Cruffin was what we missed out. Definatly worth a drop by this area per/post meal if in the area. We dropped by here as Brenda's Soul Food (reviewed below) was a good 1hr waiting time.

Brenda's French Soul Food
Michelin recommended, Brenda's Soul food serves up Louisiana styled breakfast for the people and man its a long wait to get in. Typical wait times on a weekday is 20-40mins whilst on the busy weekends , its 1-1.5hours long!

Best to go at doors open, and the wait system is simple. Leave your name on the chalk board with pax and they give their best estimate of wait time. All pax must be present to be seated. We detoured to Mr Holmes Bake House (reviewed above) during the wait.

All from the recommended list on the Brunch Menu

Shrimp and Grits 15USD
Crispy Pork Belly 14USD*Came highly recommended by others as well*

*The crispy pork belly was pretty good but honestly did not meet the hype. Not so much crispy when we had it and could be cut with a fork. What really stood out here was really the cheesy grits which balanced really well with the sweet tomato chutney. Amazingggggggg and a must try! Grits is coarsely ground maze.*Hnagtown Fry 15USD
*Pretty basic. Fried oyster in an omelet. Back home is called Or-Ahh Jian (Fried Omelet). If the battered oysters were crispier it'd probably be better. Hash could have been better roasted with crispier edges. The biscuit was pretty good but most of the hash was left behind.*

Craw Fish Bignets 12USD
*Interesting savory dish. It is overall a little on the salty side, but the dough is fluffy. A little bit like the inner wall of a fried ice cream. Pretty good but I'd say their sweet selection would have been better*x3 Latte and ice tea with watermelon and basil x2*The waiter marketed the Ice tea so well. An interesting concept that's refreshing but a little on the sweet side though.
Total Fed 5 at 18USD each with tip.
Something different from your run of the mill, all American Breakfast. Great atmosphere and a to die for grits. The dishes are little heavy so kinda of just minus off one main for every person that's there in the group! Great for sharing and a hit with all. Worth a return if in the mood for Louisiana style food.

九記牛腩 Beef Brisket
Noodles at Borington Market Food Center 2nd Floor

Located in Borington market food centre on the second floor (same as Wai Kee curries), Kau Kee offers noodle choices, with a selection of radish, Inerts, pork skin, beef stews and more. They didn’t seem to have a menu to select from on site.

Its really quite simple, choose your noodels, and pick your ingredients. Basic sets you can choose any three ingredients. Pay additional for more. There wasn’t a menu listing but my addition of two ingredients was at 42HKD.
Ordered On:
28July2017
Set with 5 ingredients
Standout was defiantly their fish cake. Good flavor and a little different from the normal ones we get back home.

The soup base is good but a little on the salty side. Table side chili always to standard.
In a similar serving style, my preference goes to Wing Kee noodles (located just behind Pullman Hotel) which is also a beef base with a wider selection of choices to choose from. I personally felt that Wing Kee's soup base was sweeter and richer. Here at Kau Kee, its more common cuts of innerts with a  special mention to their fish cake.

Kau Kee offers a good variation to Wai Kee mutton curries located next door if you’re looking for something soupy. A great blue collar place that youu need to visit prior peak lunch period.

 Man Mo Temple
located 280m from PMQ, a place for indie pop culture and local artist.
The Man Mo Temple is a picturesque tribute to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo), both of whom were worshipped by ambitious students looking to succeed in the civil examinations of Imperial China. These involved rigorous systems aimed at finding the best administrative officials for the state.
Built in 1847, this remains the largest Man Mo temple in Hong Kong. To pause for a moment’s respite under its giant hanging incense coils makes for a pleasant contrast with the hectic pace of the nearby financial district.
*Taken from Hong Kong Tourism Site*

I kinda of went there cause of the largest temple, not realizing the largest Man Mo Temple. Its not as big as expected but really only three chambers, two of which are for worshiping and the other to pay respect to one's ancestors. Apart from the unique large incense coils for a photo opportunity, there's nothing much to this stop by place.
PMQ which houses local SME startups is locate a short 250m walk nearby and its definatly worth the visit

Mayfield Lavender Fields

Click here for ABBA location of Mayfield Lavender, 1 Carshalton Rd, Banstead SM7 3JA, UK
The lavender fields peak during the months of mid July to early August.  Its best to arrive early as crowds pick up by around 11am.
Uber there and back due time constraints cost us £60 total. About 50min journey out. 4pax would be most economical and cost saving, being only slightly more than going about via public.
Getting there yourself
Hongji - "Lavender in peak season at Mayfield Lavender Farm, Banstead. Ends late August. Take southern rail from London Victoria station to West Croydon, then walk to nearby bus stop (West Croydon Bus Stop) to board bus 166 to alight at Oaks Park, right in front of lavender farm. Train and bus fare all can be paid by Oyster card. Just tap at the gantry. One way to West Croydon by train is around 7 pounds. Normally 1-2 hour affair at the farm. Afterwards, take opposite direction bus 166 back to West Croydon to spend the afternoon in this bustling town. Do go early around 7.30am from Victoria to reach the farm at 9 am opening time to beat the crowd and book best picture spots without photo bombs. Entry to farm is 1 pound."

Roy Oh "the overground rail ride, check the board for the platform towards SUTTON. Once at the West Croyton, the bus terminal is just across the road.
Train Coming back will be side across. Again check the board for the platform and time arriving towards Victoria London.
The return fare cost 3.3 pound though when I took around 6 plus evening. Overall the whole transport cost around 7 pounds"

Good lavender themed breakfast treats on site to enjoy throughout the day. Their scones were filled with lavender flavrours. The icecream was a little suttle though but you can't go wrong with any of their sweet treats. Bunches of lavender for sale at 4pounds each of 3 bunches for 10.
Mayfield Lavender park is perfect for a lovely half day activity out and about. Recommended to have breakfast and spend about 2hrs there.
Seating at the farm itself is limited but their onsite eats are great. Portaloos available onsite for quick changes. Some wedding couples were also onsite for their photo-shoots.

Jardin De Jade
located in front of Millennium Hongqiao Hotel 50m walk
*rumors of it being one of their personal best Chinese cuisine, even gone there for both lunch and dinner. Even whispers of the chef being on Singapore Airline's culinary panel had been floating around for awhile and finally having the chance to try it.*
Everyone turns left towards Carefour at Pearl City, but ever tried turning right? Jardin De Jade is literally at the door step of Milennium Hongqiao Hotel and serves up amazing Chinese food. Though the setup at the initial glance is opulent, atas (High class) and seems pricey, but a look through the menu is a pleasant surprise!

*They've got the regular A La Carte Menu and the seasonal menu, which is a nice to try what ever is in season.*

Jardin Speciality salted Chicken
*This dish fell short of expectation. It is a cold dish and textural a little bit tough. Okay but not great. In fact this and the specialty prawn dishes were left remaining.*
Jardin Duck
*Good small sized duck. Great fat distribution and was finished quickly. Worth the reorder and reviewed further below*
Dried French Beans with Minced Pork 42RMB

Jardin De Jade Char Sui Suzhou Style 42RMB

Marmite To-fu

(A must order and reviewed below)

*Finally finding the name to this dish. Superb To-fu dish which doubles up as a soup! A must order and to share among 3-4 people.*

Jardin BBQ Duck 38RMB 300g

*Beautiful duck with great flavor distribution.*

Prawn steamed dumplings
Claypot Tofu came recommended

*Really loved this dish. Cured meat cooked together in a flavorful broth that's not too heavy with great bean curd. A must try-to re create dish at home*
Simple vegetable stir fry
A mix of desserts

Total Fed 5 at 120RMB Each

*Not as much photos this time round but everyone really enjoyed the meal and comments were that the cooking isn't too salty and relatively 'cheng' (clean) eating.

Ordered On:
04July2017
Jelly Fish with Black Vinegar 38RMB/75g (Cold dish)
*Really nice balsamic which lifts up the appetite and goes really nicely with the fried peanuts. Cold, refreshing and full flavored. The jelly fish has a remarkable texture with the crunchy peanuts to give that added dimension. Really nice starter dish and a must try.*
Fried Egg Plant 38RMB
*Fans of egg plant would like this. The bite from the garlic gives that little kick so its really enjoyable.
"Jardin De Jade" Jasmine Tea Smoked Duck 58RMB/half duck 700g
*Amazing! The fragrance of the tea and smoked flavor comes through. Whats more, the duck doesn't have a hard rubbery texture. What you have instead is a delicate crispy skin and nice fat distribution. A must try if hankering for a different type of duck. The steamed soft wraps goes beautifully with the meat and sweet spicy sauce.*
"Jardin de Jade" Meat Steamed Dumpling 48RMB/8pieces
*This dumpling is up there with the greats. Simple, and delicious! The skin has sufficient structural integrity to hold in everything, and the soup and meat inside isn't too hot that it scalds you when you consume it whole. The vinegar with ginger is light enough to compliment everything else and its a really good steamed meat dumpling. We had requested to try half and half ( shrimp & pork) but they probably forgot about it whilst in translation*
Specialty Braise Pork in Brown Sauce, Shanghai Style 48RMB
*So good that I wanna try making it back home. Small perfect cubes with melt away fat, a.k.a flavor and a sweet flavor brown sauce to go with. Perfect with a steaming hot bowl of rice a must try!*
x2 Harbin Beer
x2 Rice
Total Fed 2 at 252RMB but could have easily fed 3.
A meal per pax would be 100RMB give or take if more were to go.
I am not one to try Chinese restaurant eats all the time, but this place just went to the top of my list. Step aside Bellagio, Amy's Restaurant for peiking duck,  Jardin De Jade just took top spots for a sit down Chinese dining location. There's soooooooooo much more in the menu that are incredibly interesting which are worth exploring.

After trying this place one can absolutely understand why some would have and have come back for another meal on the same day. However a double indulgence in a day was way to sinful. Interesting eats with a wide enough selection to satisfy all time favorites and explore new cuisine style. A fancy atmosphere, great selection of cook styles and eats at very, very reasonable prices. A must try and will return for another meal!!
