Izakaya located down the basement beside family mart.

A small homely Izakaya with value Omakase (chef’s choice) at ¥2500/pax when we visited. Their hotpots are reportedly good too! Yet to try.
Ordered On:
19Feb2020

5 Course Omakase excluding appetizer
Tofu curd shashimi (table charge appetizer)
Course 1 and 2 with seasonal vegetables

Overall it was a really pleasant dining experience especially with the chef watching the flow of the meal and serving up the next dish one after the other.
All dishes served were really good and special standouts to me were the vegetable tempura as well as the seasonal vegetable appetizers. One really gets to enjoy the sweetness and taste of the various vegetables to the highest degree. The generous serving size of the finale fish was flaky and well broiled. A great value Omakase experience.

Value and nice atmosphere. Unfortunately there’s no English menu or picture menu. Let him know you’re from Singapore and request for Omakase you’d like to try home style eats. Alternatively, one can try their hotpot which seems to be also one of his specialty.

Small Hitsumabushi 3600yen
Food 4.5/5
*From the top view, it seems like a single layer of Eel, but in fact its a double layer of eel with a generous serving of rice and sweet Unagi sauce. Perfection! Amazing grills flavor on the outside, fat and super juicy on the inside. By far one of the best Hitsumabushis and grilled Eel ordered. It is as good as Grilled Eel so far in Kyoto, Hakusuien, at the start of the Philosophers walk.
Personally, this beats Narita's Village famous Kawatoyo Eel joint, hands down.*

Service 3.5/5
*Food service is a little slow but man is it worth the 40min wait.*
Ambience 3.5/5
Value 4/5
Of the three Hitsumabushi's had in Nagoya, Ichibiki comes up as the best tasting and best value. Totally worth the wait! Their 'mala-like' condiment added a nice zesty flavor to the eel. In fact, we went on to purchase it from the local Supermart there after.
Among the other two Unagi joints tried, one being a famous Picho - Hitsumabushi Unagi あつた蓬莱軒 松坂屋店 located in Lucia mall is overly price in comparison and satisfactory meter doesn't match up to that served here.

However, if you can't spare the trouble of queuing for a number at 10am and turning up again much later, at 12.30pm (in our case), Yo Neh Yi Chi offers value Hitsumabushi for a value asking price and starts lunch service at 10am.  The eel at Yo Neh Yi Chi does however loose out by way of deep flavor and fattiness.
If one is willing to queue at 10am and wait about 30-40mins on arrival for the food to come, the rewards of thus far best Hitsumabushi Unagi joint are value and full flavored.
*An individual serving of Eel only at 2800yen.*
Most patrons went for Eel over rice, although their best seller and recommended order is their Hitsumabushi. Personally I felt that the grilled eel, though looks incredibly impressive, alone would be too rich and needed different textural and flavor enhancement condiments that comes in a Hitsumabushi meal to cut through the richness of the eel and sweet sauce. To each his own.

There’s a plethora of food options located on the 12th and 13th floor of JR Gate Tower Mall. Midori-Sohonten came recommended by hotel concierge staff for good sushi!

Arrived just before 11am and I must say after wasting time waiting for my queue number that this place had one of the longest queue of locals. Ticket number 31 gotten at 1055LT.
ABBATIP: Remember to get your queue number and await your turn!
Arrived at 1055 but waited till 12pm to get in on a Friday!

¥2600set comes with complimentary soup, chawanmushi and even a dessert!
Do as the locals do and order this set! The counter sushi chefs were pumping them out one after the other.

Locals ordering the exact same thing to the left and right of me.
 Expectations
 *Expectations met*
*Most of your usual Sushi sampling plates are just that. However here at Midori-Sohonten each of the sushi, already quality in its own right has that extra omph which comes in the forms of crab paste, fish eggs, ankimo and many more. These little touches bring the already good dishes to the next level. The set even comes with appetizer, soup and a dessert which was a pleasant surprise!*

Added on
Suckers of Live Octopus ¥50

*Beautiful texture and sweetness coming from the Octopus suckers. Worth the order to give a try.*
Monkfish Liver ¥250
*Pretty alright. Would have preferred if they hadn’t processed it.*

Ambience 3.5/5
Food 4/5
*Never had an equivalent of that extra omph for Sushi sampling. With all the additional trimmings of appetizer, soup and dessert, it a complete and fulfilling dining experience.*
Value 4.5/5
*I think for the quality and for that set its the most value and enjoyable experience had by far! Beats Edokko (NRT Village)sushi dining experience.*

Service 4/5
*Although I was a single seater, they gave me a table meant for two. The restaurant didn't rush-in all the patrons at once. In fact presumably to maintain standards and order, they progressively filled half the place at a time and called out for new entrants at approximately 30mins intervals*

*Sushi chefs just keep pumping out set after set after set.*
Wow! Rarely do I get a meal that makes me keep thinking about it after the meal. This will definitely be a return to and recommended joint to come back for affordable and amazing sushi with that little extra punch. Have yet to try their other seasonal options.

I personally have yet to try fine dining sushi to have it as a comparative standard but this is place in my opinion out does Eddoko Sushi Narata by way of value for sure. Quality maybe matching or slightly lower depending on what you order. For the pricing, absolutely greater quality than another personal value favorite Chio Si Maru (Nartia Outside Aeon mall).

Its all in the sauce! Wow. That sauce is just so good and totally different from the other famous chained Miso porkcutlet joint Misokatsu Yabadon in Nagoya.
Literally a local, corner in the wall shop which seems to be operated by a family.

Miso Hirekatsu Set 1550Yen for normal

*Hirekatsu seems to be a serving of three cutlets of super tender pork. That Red Miso sauce is quite unique. A complex, deep multi layered sauce thats amazing. Its not overly salty or sweet and seems to carry with it a tinge of coffee richness to it. Something like Coffee Pork Ribs dish in Singapore. Really finger licking good. Not enough pork cutlet to clean up all that sauce.*

For the price, compared to many other Tonkatsu places it is a little on the steep side. But that, deep, sweet, coffeeish miso roast sauce is fantastic. This small outlet is prepped with love as the chef beats fresh eggs for the batter, tenderizes the meat before sending it for a fry. Great Red Miso dining experience and a different flavor profile from that of Misokatsu Yabadon in Nagoya.

Wild Steak 300g
Fed 1 at 1502Yen After Taxes

*Wow! An impressive, huge gentleman's cut. Pretty nice fat distribution and comes on a sizzling hot plate. The set meal comes with a simple salad with dressing choices laid in front of you and a table side steak sauce to add to meat.
Pros:
- Huge Cut and Value for money!
- The meat has pretty good marbling.
- Loads of fantastic condiments to go with your steak. Enjoy how you like it! Wasabi, sweet radish sauce, garlic paste (personal favorite), basic salt and pepper, straight up or with their steak sauce.
Cons:
- Not that tender but for the price is still a deal!
- The steak sauce is on the salty side so do be mindful of how much you're laying down.

- Very medium rare-rare. This may not be a con to that many, but the internal temp of the steak isn't that high when served. The plus side is that they can reheat your hotplate on your request and you can keep your steak warm or further cook it. Kudos on that point.

Value for money steak joint. Think Pepper Lunch in Singapore, but on steroids and way better meat and condiments. Well worth an affordable indulgent steak meal. The 300g was already filling for myself and I did request the plate be heated as the medium-rare was a little too rare even more myself.

Tonkatsu sets
*Cutlet may look thin, but after the crispy fry of the breadcrumbs, it fluffs right up. Pretty good fat content. The down side is that there's no free flow of salad and you kinda have to shuttle back and forth the counter to get your salad dressing.
The grated radish Tonkatsu is sweeter and more refreshing than the heavier sweet sauced Tonkatsu order. Ebi side order was good Japan standard serve.*
