Ocean Empire

There
are a number of branches, but the nearest is at Shop No. 1-2, G/F.,
Causeway Bay Centre, No. 15-23 Sugar Street, Causeway Bay, H.K. Located 200m from Park Lane Hotel.
Head out the hotel main entrance, make a right, crossing the road. Take the second right after passing Windsor House.Click

The
highlight here was the porridge - tasty, smooth and starchy without any
graininess. You definitely know how much century egg you get - at the
bottom of the bowl were 2 quarters of the black stuff.
The
you tiao was crisp in and out, the perfect accompaniment to dip into the
'chok'. The chong fun and fried pumpkin cake were ok, not the best
examples of the sort.
Also give the soya milk a try - thicker and richer than most examples in Singapore - leading one of our party to remark it was almost like how mum made it.

An ok place for breakfast with a much richer-flavored Soybean drink. Porridge was smooth and thick. However a little sticky if that makes much sense. Porridge comes served with pickled veggies at the side for a classic accompaniment. Prob the last time am coming here for Porridge. Save space for much better options all over HKG.

Go for the "pick and choose 3 ingredients option". Its only a few HKD more but you get more ingredients in your porridge. Pictured above is blood cubes+century egg+beef.
Overall, nothing really penominal, but it is located nearby and its not too heavy a meal to start of the day. The soy bean and crispy dough fritters are however to standard.

Wanton Mee HKD36
*Noodles are most appropriately described as Que Que. Meaning extremely bouncy and have a great bite to them. Wanton themselves were good. Well stuffed with assortments of ingredients, but guess nothing mind blowingly great.
Beef Tendon Noodles HKD36
*Not too sure if the soup base was different, or just the broth in which these tender beef tendons were stewing in mixing into the soup. Good noodles and perhaps preferable order compared to the wanton Mee.*
Wanton Sample Platter
Barley Drink*Not just a simple Barley drink, but I believe boiled together with Lemon Grass. Refreshing and great to cool off on a hot day.*

Supposedly, from online commentators, the recipient of a Michelin recommendation, though one struggles to find a definite reference. 950m from Parklane Hotel
The style of preparation definitely raises one's standards for this simple dish. The translucent egg noodles were springy and 'clean' in a flavourful clear broth. The succulent wantons had a whole prawn each within their silky skins.
The garlic chicken wings were also nicely crisp without too much oiliness.
One can opt for the soy milk or enjoy the slightly spicy ginger-infused barley.
Pick from the menu for a choice of noodles/porridge and veggies/dian xin or dessert. Prices from HK54-HK97 depending on your choice.

*Be
warned. It's not your standard run of the mill barley but a herbal infusion
sort of thing and may not be to your likely. Interesting, but maybe
border-lining on unpleasant .*
X3 Crab
Porridge which was the strong recommendation and reason we came here.
What a
colossal mistake. The general consensus was one could barley taste the crab in
the congee. Negligible or non existent in fact. A huge let down. In fact, it
was so bad that most of the group broke off to have round two at Kam Yun Xiu
Kun for garlic chicken! You exercise to indulge, but don't waste your exercise
on the crap porridge here!
(APPARENTLY, shared by fans of this place, we went at the wrong time for the porridge. It taste wordly different when had in the evening! You can try again at your own discretion!)

I
absolutely, if not completely, boycott this location. Their wanton noodles are
pretty decent, but some swear by it. There is really nothing to scream about.
We came here for the crab porridge based on a recommendation, but it was so bad
that a makeup meal was needed to get
over the trauma.

I personally don't see what the big fuss is all about. However it's popular with the locals, and was still full house when we dined at location at around 2.30pm

*Sheokness. Their new addition of coconut with purple sweet potato was really nice. Served cold/hot. It come with a delectable coconut pudding at the bottom! Very nice and I'd recommend it. About 85HKD.*

Stewed Birds Nest and Harsmar in Coconut HKD69
*Although primarily a mango dessert joint, I was personally elated to see this hard to find dessert served. A very delicate dish, with the young coconut juice to tie in the flavors. However it could use more Harsmar.
Sago with Pomelo and Mango
*Really one of the better mango dessert I've had thus far,. Usually with mango sago desserts they have a dollop of ice cream, vanilla or otherwise. However, here, they use mango sherbet. A refreshing and definitely more natural mango taste.*

Located across the street from the Causeway Bay MTR station.
Their
mainstay would be the mango themed desserts, including a mango mochi -
mango flavoured skin with mango puree inside. You get the idea.
