 Paco Park
"Behind two layers of stone walls in the middle of bustling Manila is a quiet cemetery dating back to the days of Spanish rule. Built in 1807, Paco Park was originally designed to be a final resting place for the colonial elite; the inner walls of the circular garden still houses the marble crypt markers that bear their family names." www.atlasobscura.com

A beautiful quaint park that's located en-route to Paco Market. The place as was seen today is very popular for weddings and receptions. A nice break from the bustle of Manila and a juxtaposition where for some the beginning of a new journey and where others end.

Paco Market
Current 2011 redesign

A bustling two story market with the first floor in operations at the moment. Lots of small stalls lining the side of the streets.
An assault on the senses and the meat section maybe a bit much for first timers and very reminiscent of the fish market in Dubai.

 Half Day Itinerary in Manila.
Total distance covers about 3.5km walking from Diamond Hotel to Fort Santiago,
covering these few attractions along the way.
P75 to take a taxi back from Fort Santiago to Diamond Hotel.
Rizal Park
*Manila's Verison of Hyde Park*
Saint Augustine Church
 One of the few churches that was able to survive the destruction of war.
 


Manila Cathedral

 
 An icon of Manila city and the grandest Cathedral of them all. The Manila Cathedral has gone through over 6 restorations.
*Group excursion for the nuns, having a group shot on a Saturday Morning.*
Fort Santiago
(P75 entry per adult)

 *Closes thing to San Francisco in the mean time.*

This was pretty good especially if the weather is holding. The view of the river was quite picturesque and the original wall structures are relatively well preserved. The place can be covered in about an hour or so.

The intro video near at the entrance (Free to view at scheduled timings) gave a pretty good overview of the entire place and for my own exploration, was sufficient. To get a guided tour goes for P500.
Overall the stroll through the various attractions, one can see the Spanish influences in the changes in architecture as you advanced towards Fort Santiago.
 
There are several bicycle tour touts that offer 30mins tours of the attractions apparently. The prices I got were starting P350 to P250 for the tours. (Did not try them.)

LA Cafe is a sports bar bistro that's open 24hrs. Dining and drinking options. A relatively large establishment with San Miguel beers going at 80Peso a bottle, and a plate of a fried chicken, served with fries and chilli sauce going for about 370Pesos. 
An excellent live band we had on that night, with sick guitar skills displayed. The female performance there after was so-so only.
Overall, drinks are a great deal, but be prepared for a little of touting by way of buying more drinks, chocolates and massages pushed onto you. Only thing that I personally didn't favor was when ordering the bucket of beer, where all bottles were per-opened with paper napkins wrapped around the top.

Exploring the Makati Area
Ayala Museum, Green Belt Malls & Church

A four story museum, which houses the art and history of the Philippines. Despite it being ranked number 3 out of 14, of the attractions to do in Makati, it fell short of expectations.

Special mention goes to the gold exhibit on the top floor, crafted into various ornamental/functional/ceremonial pieces were amazing. With the price of gold that it is today, it was a wonder why no one had attempted to steal it. The crowning piece was a ceremonial gold sash of sorts weighing in at near 3kg.

Overall, its alright place to get away from the heat of the day, however the no photography policy did put a downer on things. For just the gold section it would be worth 75peso for the exhibit, but not the rest of the museum.

Greenbelt Mall, Garden and Church
Also located within the same area as Ayala Museum are the green belt malls and enclosed garden space. All the major brand names are available, but perhaps most welcoming are their wide selection of fine bistros and alfresco dining over looking the garden oasis.
Also located in the middle of the garden space is a quaint, spherical church which at first glance got mistaken for a floating piazza bistro.

Balikbayan Handicrafts
If you are looking for home furniture/retro sound speakers or misc decorative items for the house hold, you could visit this establishment which was chanced upon after having had a seafood dinner at Dampa Macapagal(click for ABBA details)

A stone's throw away from Traders hotel, Harbour Square as its name suggest is a square of approximately 15shop lots total, with various bistros, restauraunts and open-air disco pubs located on the upper floor. Location is open till 2am.

SM Mall Of Asia
SM Mall Of Asia is pretty much the "it" place for this area. Located approximately 1km, west of the hotel, this gigantic two story structure, spanning the coast is home to numerous brands and eateries. It has a cinema as well as indoor ice-skating ring and a marching band performing periodically to boot.

P.S. on 8th Nov 2012 Miss Earth 2012"You never know who you may meet at the Mall of Asia. Miss Earth 2012 was being held in MNL at the time and all the contestants were spread out in SM Mall of Asia and the Hypermart for various competitions to gain points."
 
Bistros Located Behind SM Mall Of Asia
*Open till Late 1AM weekdays, 2AM on weekends!*
The long stretch of Bistros, located behind SM Mall of Asia. The coast offers a great view of aircrafts on approach and a view of the city. *Most bars and restaurants open till 1AM on a weekday and 2AM on a weeknight.



The coastal line has an array of bistros and pubs to meet everyone's taste, fancy and budget.

These range from gastronomy, (hinting at cooking with science), Star Movies Café, a movie themed restaurant, Seafood Island, Hooters and various pubs featuring live bands.
Entertainers and small food vendors line this coastal stretch and have a fairly family friendly atmosphere.
Average food pricing +Peso350 and beers +70.

Intramuros
Manila Spanish Old Town
Experience the oldest district and see the spanish heritage that which is Manila, take a taxi ride of approximately 35-45mins to Intramuros.

Street Market Near Heritage Hotel
A very short walk from the hotel, past "Kenny Rogers" leads you to a large stretch of street markets. The place offers a variety of clothing, bootleg movies, and streets eats, offering Phillipines iconic "Balut". (A boiled, half-developed duck egg.)

The SM Mall Of Asia is also connected to SMX Convention Center, which holds numerous exhibitions throughout the year.

Edsa International Entertainment Complex
The local watering hole across the hotel. A multitude of pubs to choose from under a single complex, with high security constantly on duty to ensure safe environment for patrons.
ABBATip:Take a Taxi to go to-and-fro location. Even though its across the road, past 9.30pm, the bridge which links the hotel to the complex is high risk crime area. Knife or even gun point robberies are very common. Be Safe. Jaywalking is ill advised. Do as the locals do.
