Black Star Pastry
Recommended by Vernetta
Black star pastry is located within the premises of Kinokuniya within The galleries beside Hilton Sydney hotel.
*Instagram worthy only. The Cake is not at all worth the steep asking price of 8AUD.
Rose syrup and petals, with pistachio for the toppings, layered with a fresh watermelon layer in between. These turned out to be more song and dance that ‘justified’ the high asking price. A pleasant cake but too small a portion.*
As far as bakeries, cakes and sweets goes, the one that stands out at tops is Mr Holmes Bake House located in SFO and their must have Cruffin (whose flavor changes daily!). So so cake that's not worth.

Hurricane's Grill
(Chain found in multiple locations)

Recommended by Calvin Chew as his top ribs joint.

We literally quoted what their bibs were saying. We were there just for their ribs. Proceeded for a hearty lunch before exploring the world famous Bondi Beach in Sydney.

Ordered On:
20Oct22
*New entry was finally being able to try their Lamb ribs and were they delicious fall of the bone. The chars at the end were great smokey accents. Great showing but best sticky ribs joint still goes to local 1819 sticky lamb ribs in Singapore!*
*Good standard buffalo wings with a pretty spicy St Louis hot sauce*
Prices have risen quite a fair bit in 5years since trying this chain. Their lamb ribs were really good and would still recommend the place for their beef anhurricaned lamb ribs. Review of their pork selection as seen below. Fed 4 at AUD40 per pax.

Around the area we had explored Powerhouse Museum and got on a wonderful ferry ride to Circular Quay. Click here for full write up.

Combo ribs. Choice of 2 ribs with a side. Baked Potato
*We went for the most popular orders namely the pork and beef ribs. The beef ribs are by far  the best Beef ribs had thus far. Superior to even Grill House’s beef ribs (located in Johannesburg). The ribs here at Hurricane’s grill are really meaty, fall off bone tender and that sauce is phenomenal. Smokey, sweet and not overly sourish. A great mix and we almost wanted an additional Serving of sauce. That’s quality Aussie beef product for you.

The pork ribs, although fall off the bone but the meat are a little chewy. They are probably at par with Castells and loose by way of meatiness and flavor to Cafe De Klos, both of which are located in Amsterdam. Rusticanna in Munich still reigns supreme of the pork ribs battle.

Give the baked potato a miss. Its probably the variety of potatoes that they have. It tastes watery and not that flavorful. Stick to their fries.*
Fed 2 at AUD52 total
Their bibs could not state our sentiment any more clearly. Am here for the ribs and the stand out is the BEEF RIBS! A must have. Will try their lamb ribs the next time around!

Want a taste of solid Malaysian cooking for amazing prices? This hidden gem is located through Woolworth back entrance located ground level and down a spiral staircase. Cooks are from Cameroon highlands.

The place was buzzing with the working crowd as of 1300hrs.
 Any 2 for 7.50 or 3 for 8.50
with choice of white/fried rice/noodles
 Ordered On:18Jan2018
Beef Rendang and Sambal Octopus are THE THING TO ORDER. The only clear winner and getting everyone's approval.
Fed 3 at AUD9.50 Each

Ordered on:
1st Feb2017
Beef Rendang
Amaazzinggg. Soft, tender and creamy. They have just the right amount of sweet and a thing of beauty on a plate with white rice. Damn nice. Only other place outside of Asia which stepped up this humble dish was had at Chin Chin in Melbourne.
Spicy octopus with vegetables
Yeah it is spicy man. Legit chilli heat and can give Shalom (another popular Indonesian restaurant in Sydney) a run for its money. The octopus isn't over cooked and an interesting variation that usually uses squid. Something between a korean/malaysian fusion take on the dish.
Spicy Fish
Nothing special its probably a cheap fresh water fish with more batter than anything else. But the sauce over it is very nice.
Fed1 AUD8.50
Get ready to sweat and have a bottle of water at the ready. True Malaysian heat and delicious eats. Am not sure of the other selections but the octopus and beef rendang are worth a reorder. The fried rice isn't anything special.
Nice gem of a find recommended by L.CK. Very nice and worth a revisit most defiantly.

Oiden Bowl
7min walk/600m
Recommended by Pei Thung
Located on the ground floor of Skyview Shopping Plaza, Oiden Bowl offers damn value eats, large potions, great flavor, in a cosey setting to boot!
*Pretty interesting with the 9.90AUD set. You can choose any three and they are in small sampler sizes*
*Add-ons at a reasonable charge as you move down the line*
Ordered on:31stJan2017
Garlic butter teriyaki chicken bowl set (comes with drink and soup)
with add on of beef croquette.

*The chicken order is pretty alright. . They had an nice interesting use of white and purple cabbage which rounded the dish.
The chicken is a little bit on the dry side and could have used some good char grilling. However together with all the condiments, a simple filling meal. The beef croquette nicely fried and not at all greasy. Preference is to stick to the Beef bowls with egg orders (reviewed below)
Fed1 paid about 15AUD
Ordered On:
07Aug2016
Onatam BBQ Wagyu Beef Large Bowl AUD12.90
*A very generous supply of meat that goes fantastic with the warm rice. A winner for sure and the onsen egg, was served cold! The inside weren't runny, but was a nice creamy, half-cooked consistency and was absolutely fantastic to have over/with the hot rice dish. Its a first for myself having cold on-sen egg but it was thumbs up! One of the better one's I've gotten to try. A must order! Everyone was ordering it too*
Takoyaku AUD2.30

*Pretty standard from the fried section, which one can just grab some, and add-on to the dish*
Milk Green Tea AUD2.60

*There is free water on-site but the Milk Green Tea wasn't too bad either. Nice milky flavors, and not overly thick. Its like having a cold Starbarks Matcha Latee but at half the price. This is worth the order!*

Total 17.80AUD
I was initially hankering for Naru One's eats, but was swayed to give this try. Definitely no regrets. Its a damn solid recommendation and now my new, alternate joint for quick, good value eats! Its very much like the cheap student eats  at Taka Japanese (Perth), only better quality in a nicer environment. This place definitely beats, Makanai, located right outside of Hilton. Walking another 500m or so gets way better eats, and that egg, amazing. Old favorites Sydney Madang and Naru One are located just a block across if you're looking for Korean eats.

Definitely give this place a try for their on-sen eggs, the milk green tea and their other dishes they have to offer! C&G.

Mamak
Recommended by Andre
900m/13min walk

Mamak has always had a long queue and for their prices of dishes, compared to Singapore, the place is defiantly 2 fold or more (depending on your exchange rate at the time.) However with that said, the constant long queues, like many places, speak for itself by way of its popularity, and continued success. High prices and lousy food should not last very long.
ABBATip:
- The place doesn't serve alcohol and their corkage charge is only AUD2. 7-11 is just across the street, if you're looking for some harder hitting drinks.
- The place opens till 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, perfect for late night eats.
Ordered On:
07Aug2016
Milo Ice AUD4
*Is it the best damn Milo ice ever? Na, but its alright for Aussie Prices.*
Murtabak LambAUD14
Choices of Lamb/Chicken
(Takes about 15mins to prepare. Mine came in 23mins)
*Was it worth the wait? I wouldn't say so. Its definitely in a niftier packaging and packed with much more ingredients. A very filling meal. The curries, dhal and especially sambal blachan (Sambal Blachan isn't that tongue burning spicy) served together with were really good. Probably a great location for those seeking typical eats from back home.*
Total Fed 1 AUD18
The rest of their dishes looked pretty good too, and from the clientele as well as people in the queue,a great restaurant to have a taste of good old fashioned Malaysian eats. I'd probably return for their meegoreng and recommended Fish curries another time for variety sake. Good thing is that Meet Fresh for great refreshing/warming Taiwan desserts are located next door

Shalom
Indonesian Restaurant

 700m walk/8mins
Recommended by Chin Gac
Shalom serves up authentic Indonesian food with power pack chilli.
Ordered On:
08Aug2016
Mix Platter AUD14

*Their food served are authentic and flavorful. The beef has nice fat distribution and the
chicken with rempah nicely done as well. An overall filling dish with great flavors from the
different spices. It's a good thing that they have free flow, self-service water on site as it
is satisfyingly spicy. You'll definitely be leaving sweaty and with a redder tongue. *
Mixed Fruit Ice Dessert AUD5

*This crushed ice dessert is really sweet. It seems simple enough to replicate and
would probably have a go at. It's an interesting mix of Atapchi seeds, grass jelly and
avocado. A cool way to sooth those, spice burnt taste buds.*
Total 19AUD Fed1
Need some authentic Indonesian eats and some spicy chili to clear up sinuses? This is the place to be! Good eats, reasonable prices, and fans of the spice can definitely find it here.

Family neighbors, who have always had a hand in the food industry, are now living the dream, in this quaint bistro, located just off the main city street.
Ordered on:
15June2016
Home made soy cured salmon, cabbage, apple and
radish slaw, rocket, wasabi
mayo - AUD15

*"The salmon was found to be a little bit on the salty side, but others may find it
enjoyable. The vegetables are superb and the dish, in my opinion could have done
better with eggs. The wasabi mayo was non existent. A small serving of fries by the side
would have been nice"- T.C*
Cantonese Slow Braised Beef, caramelized onions,
swiss cheese, rocket, lime
and ginger mayo - AUD16

*Super loving this sour dough bread dish combo. The hearty serving of braised beef that's tender and juicy, brought to a pop with the delectable lime mayo. Unfortunately the ginger element went unnoticed but a stronger showing of the spice would have definitely worked. A balance of sweet, salty and tangy all mixed into one panini pressed
parcel of awesomeness.*
Made to order Madeleines W/Kaya (Their Signature dish) 15mins 3 for AUD6

*The House special of, made-to-order Madeleines. They're a beautiful, crumbly, golden brown, with a light crispy circumference. A nice localized version by having creamy kaya pumped as its filling. The must order when at Rumah's."

The place to go for Asian inspired dishes that work! Wholesome home stead dishes with a twist, kicked up a notch.
