Want some
Italian food fair? Fresh ingredients and located right beside the Rosebank Mall
Craft Markets. Their desserts look decadent as well, and they do serve some hot
alcoholic coffees.

Tra-Roma - Sweet Chillinnaise Chicken, avocado (seasonal)
and tomato 77R
*There's
no chilli in here. Sweet cream chicken balanced with fresh ingredients. The
classic pairing. Creamy avocado, fresh tomatoes, topped with cheese and toasted
in between Cibatta bread. Light and fluffy. A good dish that could have been
made better if the sandwiches were toasted a little bit more and served
warmer.*
Home made lemonade 27R
*Sweet
and refreshing. Nothing Ike having beautiful fresh lemons with the added kick
from fresh mint. They could be lighter on the sugar, but it's a simple home made
drink that gives you an idea for home parties. Refreshingly good.*

The cakes
do look good but that's probably because they were all out at the time and
awaiting to have them put on display.
However,
it is a change from primarily Greek to Italian cuisine.
Mike's Kitchen
2nd Floor
(Halal Certified and Open only after 10.30am)
I went to
try this place as it came recommended by crew who had the chance to try Beef
Ribs at both joints (Mike's Kitchen & Spurs). Her take was that Mike's
Kitchen is the place to go for Beef Ribs and to Spurs (yet to be reviewed) just
across from Mike's Kitchen for their lamb.

400g Beef Ribs 108.90Rand
*Good
sized beef ribs, with some lovely char bits. Was eating them with my hands and
cleaning them right down to the bone. Long story short, it would be splitting
hairs between this and Grill House, with personal preference tending ever so
slightly in favor off Grill House's beef ribs (due to familiarity).
This
time's order was a mere sampling but as I finished the last bone, I wouldn't
have minded having the full 800g portion for myself to fully enjoy.
Price
point wise, this place wins hands down Grill House as the orders at Mike's
Kitchen comes with a choice of salad/fries/potatoes/vegetables, as opposed to
A-La-Carte Add-on options at Grill House.*
400g Lamb Ribs 159.90Rand
*Its
nice, but about 50% more expensive. Their lamb here, distinctly have that gamey
taste taste/smell to it and may not be to your pallet. Worth the try but a
little more pricey. I would've have ordered the 800g beef ribs for about the
same.*
Sides
*Salad
nothing really to scream about. In fact the squash was in my opinion, under
seasoned. The cream spinach was passable.*
Total 300Rand Red 2
Want beef
ribs but don't want to break the bank, go to Mike's Kitchen for solid Beef Ribs
that would definitely give Grill House a run for its money. Place opens at
1030am, and halal certified!
Spurs
Opens at 8am. 2nd Floor
(yet to be reviewed)
Click here for ABBA location of Spurs located across from Mike's Kitchen
The wait
staff at Europa recommended this to be the place that everyone goes to for the
beef ribs and even went on to say it was better than the more pricey Grill House! Some crew have sworn by this place over their beef ribs, and others to
coming here for their lamb. With pricing almost similar to neighboring Mike's
Kitchen, a place to try.
FYI Full
menu is available at doors open. Yeap, thats right, full ribs/steaks and
whatever you desire is available from 8am.

be reviewed personally*
Located
in The Firs, diagonally across from Grill House, Fish Monger came recommended
by others saying that seafood here was way better than that of Ocean Basket.

8Oysters Large 18.95Rand each
*Oysters
aren't really as large as expected. One can order in small or medium. However
thou they lacked in size, their flavor is fantastic. The taste of the sea from
there life oysters tank, all of which freshly shucked.*
The King platter 790Rand

*Langoustine
were good. Much sweeter and more tender than the standard run of the mill
prawns. The mussels served were powdery and suspected to have been frozen,
leaving much to be desired. In fact they werent even finished. Other than that,
although the platter looked impressive, the rest of the ingredients were to
standard and nothing really to scream about. Platter comes with a Tri-styled
cook on the squids along with langoustines, prawns and fish. In all honesty,
over priced and perhaps, with the exception of the langoustine, the same
satisfaction maybe derived from Ocean Basket for much less.*
Calamari Starter 60Rand
*Good
serving and nicely fried. No complaints here!*
Springfield Life 500ml 160Rand
Kingklip Thermidor 180Rand
*Pretty
good actually. Kingklip is the native fish to Johannesburg to order. Great
texture and tender even after having been slow baked in cheese and mushrooms.
Really enjoyable dish that comes with a selection of well seasoned sides. I
opted for the butter nut squash and spinach option. The squash really stood on,
nice and sweet and as the name suggests, a buttery after taste. Fantastic!*
San Pelegrino 45Rand
Approximately 300Rand per pax
Overpriced
for the King platter. The oysters and the Kingklip were definitely worth the
order (though it seemed small for a large sized oyster order). The same level
of satisfaction could be derived from the cheaper Ocean Basket, specifically
comparing the normal prawns and squids.
Definitely
a more posh setting for the intimate dining experience. Probably worth the
visit for well prepared Kingklip orders and definitely for their oysters.
