Los Angeles - To Eat 01Mar25 (Lodge Bread Co, The Proud Bird)

Los Angeles - To Do

 LA - To Eat
Lodge Bread Co

Researched to offer some of the best breakfast when in LA. They are most known for their sour dough bread, coffee cake and humongous cinnamon rolls (these are really huge and can feed 4 people).
Ordered On:
01Mar25
*Stands out were their bread for sure and surprisingly their coffee was really good. The mugs kept them warm for much longer with excellent flavor. A really good pick me up for the day ahead.*
Food 4/5
Ambience 2.5/5
Its alright. The place gets crowded later and only has outdoor seating.

Value 3/5

Fed all at about 27USD Each
Nice start to the day. There is another branch at Beverly Hills as well.
Click here for ABBA location of the Lodge Bread Co.

The Proud Bird/Bluso's Bar-B-Que
(Look out point of RWY35L) 20mins walk/ 1.4km
Opens Daily but closes 7pm and 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Founded in 1967 near LAX, The Proud Bird is an aviation-themed restaurant that was renovated in 2017 into a modern food hall while preserving its historic aircraft displays and runway views. Think Marche (several food vendors and a Starbucks to boot).

This is a closer plane spotting spot than the other popular In-n-Out burger joint.

*Excellent child friendly place with playground attached*

*They've got a Starbucks FYI!*

Ordered On:
09Oct25
*Beef Brisket and Pork Ribs are still the go-to must orders. Skip the so-so side. We tried the Mushroom Truffle Pizza. It was good but like the previous order more of a filler to the amazing mains! The pulled pork was however on the dry side.*

*Cheers! Look out for USD5 Happy Hour deals!*

Fed 6 USD31 each.
Ordered On:

02March25
1/2 Pound of Beef Brisket USD24, pork ribs USD20 and large BBQ Chicken Pizza. Sides of Mac & Cheese USD7, Coleslaw USD6 and Jalapeno Peppers USD7
Food 3.5/5
*Although the google rating for the BBQ smoke house wasn't that high, but it was a surprisingly, finger licking good! The beef brisket was tender and the ribs really comparable to famous ones like that of Cafe De Klos. Their BBQ sauce was excellent with a hint of heat. Thumbs up! The pizza and sides weren't much to scream about but it was overall very filling and enjoyed by all.

Planes, views and sunset. Would recommend*

*Request from the staff inside to have the gas pits lit so you can
enjoy the atmosphere outside.*

Added bonus of plane spotting

*Bell X-1 in Orange was the first aircraft to break the sound barrier in level flight, on October 14, 1947. Captain Chuck Yeager, a US Air Force test pilot, was at the controls. *
*Arrivals on 24R and 25L*
A great family-friendly space for get togethers. Foods pretty decent and look out for their weekday specials. The road side walking can be a little tricky when night falls but its pretty quiet all the way to the diner with a foot path of fairly flat gravel on the side.

One can order from a selection of eats and just pick-up the after. Bonus on having a Starbucks within the compound and fantastic views of dual runway arrivals and departures. Worth to check out and will return next time!

Tired of having the same breakfast daily, try CoCo's Bakery across the street where they are most known for their daily fresh baked pies.
Ordered On:
09June23
 California Omelette USD14.79
(Fresh avocado, melted Montery Jack Cheese and Applewood smoked bacon USD14.99
Chose Pancakes and hash
*Fantastic! The omelet maybe slightly over and loose out to the Hotel's made to order omelets, but the crispy hash is more like a delicious Rosti and their pan cakes were super light, with a fantastic crispy edge to it!*
Coconut Cream Pie USD4.89
*Decadent, dense. A little too heavy for me but like the Cheesecakes here, for sharing! Too much to finish on one sitting. The crust isn't as crumbly as I was hoping for. Not a home run order choice, but will still come back if in the mood to try any of their other pies. Extra USD1 for a scoop of ice-cream to go with it.*

Great place for an alternative and for indulging in their pies too! Their all American Pies look so good and whats also great, is that they have burgers and other heartier offerings for their breakfast selection.

If going with two or more people, I'd recommend this place would have greater savings if ordering to share. Better side offerings and larger variety for a morning breakfast/dinner (Depending which timezone you're following)

Even if dining alone, Coco's offers a larger variety and same/similar price point, as compared to the hotel's buffet.

Waba Grill
(Chained establishment)

450m walk away form Wyndham Hotel

WaBa Grill, 515 W Chapman Ave, Anaheim, CA 92802Waba Grill came recommended by others. A chain joint that serves up, what's best described as Americanized-Japanese' healthy meals.
Ordered On:
09June2023
Prices have gone up about USD2. Paid 11USD+ for the same order.
Paying more for less now. There didn't seem to offer the option of brown rice any more.
Still the good thing is that the sides are still complimentary as well as the sauces.
Value has dropped to 3.5/5

Ordered On:
01March2018
Waba signature plate of Chicken and Steak. Added half an avocado. Total USD10+
*The signature choice comes with a option of brown/white rice. The packaging looks deceptively small but the serving is really large. A complete meal with salad, fruit and all! The beef though has a hint of good char flavor, it is a little on the sweet side. Almost like having Korean Bulgogi beef. The chicken's pretty alright but the combination of sauces with the rice is great. Fill up on their condiments comprising of fresh spring onions for the extra crunch and freshness, along with the pickled carrot and jalapenos for a little heat. The Waba chilli sauce isn't tongue burning spicy like Halal Guys. Great for take away meals or even having there! The add-on avocado, as seen, a beautiful green, creamy and excellent! Will come back for  simple C&G Eats.

Outback Steak House
240m walk away form Wyndham Hotel
An Australian chain steak house that's located across  the road with a full fledged bar.

Ordered On:
30May0217

Blooming Onion USD8+
Summer pale Ale.

Steaks come with their signature potatoes and choice of sides.
13Oz Ribeye and 12Oz Sirloin Cut 23USD+-24USD+ respectively

*The meats pretty okay prepared. Nothing phenomenal. I felt that the seasoning was a little heavy handed on the salt. The actual fat distribution of the meat was disappointing and the texture of the meat itself was firm and not as tender as hoped. The sirloin was similar but with more flavor from the fat strip at the top. Their signature jacket potato was huge and only could work through about a quarter of it. The blooming onion was the filler. Sweet onion fried to a oily crisp. The petal ends were nice and crispy but the bases soaked up much of the oil which made it heavy to finish. Good to share among at least three to four individuals.*

 Total: 77USD fed two
"Don't Bother/DWT (Don't waste time)" - Han. Disappointing for a steak house really. Maybe the slow roasted prime rib or 22Oz (623gram) bone-in rib eye would have been better, but if coming here, order their massive steaks to share or try the tried and tested Morton's just further down the road (1.5km walk).

Los Angeles - To Eat (29Nov2016Red Robin Gourmet Burgers)

 LA - To Eat
Red Robin Gourmet Burgers
250m walk away form Wyndham Hotel
No crossing of main roads required and literally across from the hotel. This place serves up pretty good standing burgers.
Ordered On:
28May2017Smoke and Pepper USD13.99

*Patties from this gourmet selection with a mix of angus beef as solid as from before. The sweet potato fries were pretty okay but still best fries french fries winner goes to Grill'd from Aussie and garlic fries winner still goes to super duper from San Fran. Cole Slaw has a very light dressing over and all are free flow!
Now to the burger business at hand. The smokiness I think comes mostly from the cheese and the grilled patties, but it lacked in the pepper element. A good burger with some salt clusters which a little offsetting. Black and blue still the preferred choice.*
16-18USD per pax.

Ordered On:
29Nov2016
Black and Blue USD14.29 with bottomless Garlic Herb Fries
*The blacked mushroom and beef were amazing. They do ask one's preference for the doneness of the meat which is definitely a thumbs up in my books. Excellent smokey flavor of the hearty patty and the soft ciabatta bread really goes very well with it. The home made blue however was totally lacking in punch. (Almost non existent). The fries were alright but still looses out to top garlic fries at Superduper, SFO. *
"Good burger and will come back..." - John
Fish Burger with bottomless coleslaw
"Fish nicely done and can come back for it." - Jacq
*The coleslaw was good too. Not too heavy on mayo and very refreshing. Plus, much like the bottomless sides in the menu above, its free refills!*

Finest Chicken 12.99USD
*A so-so response from both diners. It is a little on the sweet side,
and its typically southern paring.*

About 16-18USD per pax with tip.
Good burger and definitely value. The table behind us had an impressive onion ring tower that I'd try another time. The burgers here patty wise ranks up there in the top. The sides may loose out to other joints but their bottomless deal is steal! I'd say as an entire package in stands just below Munich's Burger House, probably on par with Pearl's Deluxe burgers in SFO (depending on what you ordered).
Plus points for this place are definitely its homely dining environment, bottomless sides and the wait staff being able to split the bill individually for us. Excellent stuff here and would return to try their other burgers which load tantalizing good.
