Hanamaruken Ramen

Located just off the main Dotonburi area, is this 24hr run Ramen shop. Their unique selling point is their ultra thick braised pork. In comparison to other ramen houses with their usual near paper thin slices, this is where Hanamarken Ramen shines.

The soup stock itself wasn't too salty, but the slow cooked pork rib was what did the meal in. Though slowly cooked, and an impressive thick cut, after a while its more fat than anything else. Together with the springy starchy noodles, the combination makes the entire meal 'heavy' and in fact difficult to finish. Ramen Tensho located in Nipponbashi the anime district has a similar style thick pork and with its broth is better than Hanamaruken Ramen. Its also a contender for top spot with Ichiran.

Super Set consisting of 8 Assorted Sushi
 *The premium items would probably be the eel, Uni, Otoro and fresh abalone.
We both agreed. The only stand out were the Uni and the Eel.
The Uni is perfectly chilled, rich and extremely creamy. Served atop a Ika slice and sushi rice. Amazing but a petit portion. 

The Unagi was a pleasant surprise as it was a whole piece wrapped around it.
Great char and sweet meat. 
The Otoro here honestly lacked luster. It was a thin slice and served a little on the warm side. Not enough and not that mind blowing.*

Its very pricey and portions are significantly smaller than those had a Eddokou Sushi NRT. Portion sizes are about30% smaller and prices I'd probably say about the same.

Freshness Burger is a chained restaurant that can also be found in Singapore. Its probably about the same standing as Superduper (SFO) and Shake Shack (Chain found globally).

Classic Burger 500+ Yen and Classic Burger with Avocado and Cheese about 734Yen
 *Wow! You get your money's worth of avocado that's for sure.  An entire half Avo just for you. The meat is juicy and well seasoned. The bun is toasted perfectly, soft milky and so Fresshhhh. A nice strong showing for the burger.
The burger patty itself may not be as thick as U.S counter parts like all time number one Pearl's Deluxe, (close fight is Burger House in MUC) but it is a good burger overall that's presented beautifully and very satisfying to get greasy hands. Good enough for both to wonder how their fries were. A classic matched pairing.*

Their signature Grand cuts Black x Black Hamburger steak with garlic cream sauce.
 Expectations versus reality.
* The hamburger steak burst with juices when cut into. Sweet meat juice flavours however the over worked meat didn’t leave much of a texture to the hamburger steak. Their signature garlic sauce could use more garlic and less salt. 3/5 rating*

Thin rice noodle soup with soft pork, pork mince, tender pork, meaty pork bone, porkball, bbq red pork and egg.
*This all encompassing meal is perfect for a chilly day in Perth. The soup stock is quite unique in that its a little zesty and refreshing. There’s your money worth of ingredients in that huge bowl of deliciousness. The serving is already large, but there’s an even larger size order that one could go for. Even though its got a spicy rating on the menu, but probably ranks a nil on Asian pallets.*

The NOODLE MENU is ONLY available ON REQUEST and its a pretty good deal.

This noodle dish is worth the order for the amount of ingredients and their refreshing and savory soup stock, which in itself is quite different from the run of the mill soups. Its like the meepok order over in SFO Pho Tan Hoa (still tops for Beef Pho and their black drip coffee, a staple for many).

Pieces of duck meat are lightly cooked in Imai’s special soup
and served with Udon in hot soup

*Hmmmm could do without the weird pan fried mochi toppings. Besides that, the soup is refreshing and the spice shaker actually adds a little citrus which is pleasant with the light broth. Only the tender and most flavourful curs were used which were a welcome.*

Soup stock is refreshing. However the rest of udon and fresh leeks are pretty standard I felt Worth the try if looking for something other than Ramen.

Mini sweet potato apple pie.

*Okay but not great. One of their signatures with a crusty exterior. The apple filling is a little tart and masks the sweet potato filling a bit. Nice but not wow. Unlike when trying the hokkaido cheese tarts.*
A chained establishment that specializes in all things sweet potato. Their other items looked good to try but were too much after a meal and for one to finish.

Early Bird took over from Artistry Cafe sometime in May 2018 with a new menu! Was going to try out Artistry Cafe for their high ranking and recommendation from other sites, but was surprised it had been taken over. The interior decor has been cheerfully updated to match the new tenants theme.

Chicken and Pancakes – SGD19
Fried chicken on house-made buttermilk pancakes served with chilli maple.
 *Can’t decide between sweet and savory, this classic pairing (usually with waffles but pancakes same same but different) is damn worth it. The tender chicken thighs are crisply fried over two huge fluffy buttermilk pancakes with crispy edges. Drizzled with a fair amount of syrup and a light heat from the chilli flakes. A good serving size which can honestly feed a party of two. One of the best chicken and pancakes had thus far.*
Truffle Cream Pasta – SGD19
Linguine with mushrooms, chopped bacon in truffle cream sauce,
topped with grated Parmesan.
*Pretty standard fare. The portion is pretty decent, with a fair amount of ingredient sprinkled over. The truffle flavors are honestly lacking and the mushrooms and bacon didn't have enough time in the sauce to have the flavors meld and develop. A creamy, truffle lacking pasta who's individual components seem separate.*
Their mains had a variety and were pretty interesting. The serving portion of the chicken and pancakes were so huge that there wasn't enough space to really sample their delectable desserts which were screaming from the pages to be tried.

Though their pasta lacked luster, the rest of their menu had a spread of interesting eats that were worth exploring. Located just off the main Bugis Street and Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, this is a great cafe to start your day or get a meal whilst in that general vicinity.
