Tucked away in the alley is this quaint Unagi Restaurant, Yo Neh Yi Chi, which seems family run. This place was significantly cheaper than another popular by google rated Unagi joint located along the main road which prices are around the ¥4000 and up range.

Hitsumabushi - ¥2450 Regular Nett
Hitsumabushi is a well known Nagoya cuisine and it is enjoyed three ways. (I think for the deluxe options you get one more style which comes with egg and grated yam.

The way to enjoy Histumabushi:
First bowl eat as it is.

Second bowl with seasoning.

Third bowl, seasoning and broth.

*The eels done here are thinner than what one maybe accustomed to. The char and flavours of the eel are good. Having as is, the eel of course shines with is smoky flavours and the sweet sauce. Strangely with addition of fresh ingredients and later the light broth, the dish feels lighter and more refreshing. I personally enjoyed everything thrown in the most. However the eel gets a little loss in the stock mixed with chives and seaweed.
Thoroughly enjoyed Histumabushi styled Eel which may not suit the conventional Eel bento box. Worth the try and will probably try this style at another recommended Unagi joint ひつまぶし備長 ラシック店 at Lachic mall located beside Hisayodori park.*

¥290 for their number one seller Melon Bun and Ice cream.

 *Don’t even bother. You get what you pay for. In all honesty its decent, edible but not great. The bread isn’t that soft and warm and the ice cream is average. Compared to the much superior Melopan Icecream ¥400 in Osaka, Melon De Melon fails in comparison.

Another Izakaya which opens only from 4pm till late. Da Yi Jin is a little different from other Izakayas which often serves Yakitori. Here is more of a self service buffet style of traditional tapas style eats.

Tuna Shashimi, local snails, Tofu, Braised Octopus, Draft beer
and Chicken Heart Yakitori.

*The snails were especially nice with their sweet sauce marinades. The rest of the dishes were pretty normal but its the whole atmosphere and friendly patrons that make this place quite extraordinary. A local from the opposite table was friendly enough to share a serve of sake and hamburger steak with myself. Even though lost in translation, it was a welcome treat and entertaining interaction between a local and a gaijin. The place was filled as off 1830hrs.*

For a local experience with the people and an Izakaya serving Japan type tapas, one can give Da Yi Jin a try! Just help yourself to whatever you may like and let the owner rung up the bill using an abacus!
