Noryangjin Markets
(Seafood market)
(Seafood market)
(Over pricing!)
- There
are Chinese speaking advertisers that heckle for sales of seafood. Live baby
octopuses range from 5 for 10,000WON and an additional 3000WON charge for dine
in, to 1 live baby octopus for 10,000WON.
- A meal
here have cost some 100,000WON or more, and they either overcharge you on the at the market and/or at the Restaurants
Tsukiji-light
would best describe this place. As far as we could see, the place is divided
into preserved fish and dried foods, shellfish, fish and live seafood for
purchase. It has a similar concept to Dampa Macapgal Manila. One can purchase
the live seafood and have them prepared at any of the dining stalls. (At
varying prices. Remember to read warning above.)
The must
tries that everyone goes for are the live octopus and the flounder Shashimi.
We
ordered a plate of Shashimi at 15,000Won which had the Flounder Shashimi. It
does have a bit of a crunch, and communicating with the Korean stall lady was
near impossible. In trying to communicate anyway possible to get some soya sauce, we, instead
got Korean chili sauce, wasabi, where to buy Soju, chopsticks and cups.
*Note* Dining at
Namdaemun Markets
You cannot
sit at a cafe with your takeaways like Shashimi and have them there even if
you've ordered drinks from the stall. Food purchased from the market
apparently needs to be consumed in the designated/allocated diners on site
which presumably come at an entry cover charge.
We opted
for Roof Top, ghetto, Alfresco dining.
The
protest going on that day at the markets about Fish Mongers and their concern over their job
security.
A worth while visit, but maybe not for a meal option.
