London - To Stay

Tower of London
While the queue for the Tower does seem long, even on a Monday morning, it clears fairly quickly. There are also sufficient attractions spaced around the grounds such that it does not really feel overly cramped. Getting there is straightforward: it is located next to Tower Hill Station.

Even the Yeoman Warder conducting the tour had a lifetime giving military commands to remain audible above the large group of tourists. It gives a succinct summary of the main features of the Tower, peppered with anecdotes and dry British wit. The latter being necessary when relating the more gory details like the 2 young princes smothered in the Tower...

Kid Friendly: While some museums can come of as stuffy and boring, the Tower should have enough to keep the kiddies engaged, with historical reenactments, knights' armours, torture equipment and a number of hands-on exhibits for them to tinker with.

ABBA Tip: The adult ticket is ₤22. Buy the tickets online for a cheaper price of ₤20.90.
Send the email to gloucester@millenniumhotels.co.uk at the Business Centre for help in printing out the hardcopy.
To make it even cheaper at ₤19, you can omit the voluntary donation to the museum that comes with each ticket (but you aren't going to be a cheap bastard right...)

Churchill War Rooms

Click here for ABBA location of Churchill War Room, near Westminster StationWhile the Imperial War Museum is undergoing refurbishment till July '14, this seemed like a suitable alternative. Near to the Westminster Underground Station. Can be a wee bit hard to find. After exiting the station, stay on the same side of the road and head towards St James park.

Gloomy and cramped, more than once does one get a sense of the struggle first against impending invasion to Britain and then to achieve victory in the global conflict. The handheld audioguide is included with the ticket and provides more than enough information to the visitor.

Other than the War Rooms, there is also an on-going exhibition regarding the life of Sir Winston Churchill. Inspiring stuff...

ABBA Tip: Like the Tower of London, the tickets can also be purchased online, but latest the day before visiting. Otherwise they can only be purchased on-site.Click here for ABBA location of Churchill War Room, near Westminster Station
