ABBAtip:
- Park at The Riverwalk for a short walk to 1819. Roadside parking is very limited.

1819 is located along the picturesque Boat Quay. The inspiration behind its name is when Sir Stamford Raffles first came to Singapore. Aptly named, it keeps in theme with the heritage buildings facing the river side.

Boat Quay may have a stigma of costly, tourist trap but not at 1819. Fair portions sizes with pretty good eats are available for the same iconic river view. A certified Halal joint, they offer refreshing high energy mock-tails (first time trying a Red Bull mix). Interestingly factoid at date of trying, they are the second highest Red-bull Sales in Singapore.

Ordered On:

Linguine Crab Meat SGD27.90
Crab meat linguine pasta with arugula cooked in tomato and cream sauce

*Good serving size with a lot of crab meat. Decent dish*

BBQ Sticky Lamb Spare Ribs SGD41.90
Free range lamb ribs basted with house special bbq sauce
served with salad and fries.
*This was the super star dish for a multitude of reasons. The meat is carefully prepared over two days, brine, broiled, seared and basted at intervals to deliver a juicy, succulent piece of art.
The soft bone at the ends add that beautiful crunch and signature char. The tender lamb does not carry a gamy flavor. The sauce balance was just right and not overtly sweet. The crunchy textural topping was a nice touch.

Visually it may look small but honestly a serving could feed two which makes this a value and must order! Will recommend this and it has inspired me to try to replicate this at home. Note that there's no fancy way to eat this but to get in on the succulent meat, fingers and all.*

Clams in Garlic and Lemon Sauce SGD19.90
Fresh clams cooked in garlic and lemon sauce served with bread.
*The butter pretty much over powered everything else. There was however a very generous serving of the clams which was welcomed*
Total Fed 2 at SGD81.75(with 20% crew  discount)

Food 3.5/5

4.5/5
For the lamb ribs a must have!

Service NA

Ambience 3/5

*Potential for more. The river-side dining in itself is really enjoyable and has a cooling breeze. Recommended to sit riverside. Great locale to people watch and watch the iconic, full electronic bunk boats rolling up and down the Singapore River. Click here for Singapore River Cruise Review!)
Value 4/5
*Given the location, natural riverside ambience, food prices are fair with respectable portions that won’t leave you hungry.*

Will highly recommend the ribs which to my recollection the first time having lamb. Very well executed!

A nice place to bring guests to have a homely family meals by the river side at reasonable pricing after a day of exploring or even before getting into the night life that is at Clark Quay.

Singapore Discovery Center

Take a vivid step back through Singapore's war story in particular. It was made even more meaningful as Singapore Discovery Center is located next to SAFTI Mi where the young officers from the tri-service of Singapore are trained at.

*Learn about the famous Sentosa cable car rescue in 1983*

Go for the SAFTI MI Bus tour which is both highly educational and adds weight to part of the reason why Singaporean men serve a mandatory national service. Click here for their timings. The army base itself would be otherwise a restricted area to enter.
*There's an indoor silent disco which the kids had a fantastic time running about*
Added side attraction is the free to explore outskirts of the still under renovation Army museum. Get up close to some heavy artillery. The Army museum is located off to the side of the Singapore Discovery Center.
A fun learning experience. The sharing of Singapore during the war was tastefully done but maybe a little bit heavy for the younger kids. The rest of the tour and interactive booths has something for all ages to enjoy. Worth the travel all the way to the Jurong for the Singapore Discovery Center and almost a full day's worth of exploration.

A fun exhibition. The main exhibition is on the 2nd floor with a section of the city map being a live depiction of the fast pace and ever changing landscape of Singapore.
*Master Plan for Marina Bay by Kenzo Tange commissioned in 1983*
The other exhibitions around the main gallery do change from Singapore concept art works and on the upper stories, concept plans of what Marina Bay Sands may have looked like. A visual joy of exploring maps of Singapore and through the ages with the coastline every changing and expanding outwards.

*Tablets provide information with augmented reality.*

The exhibition itself has immersive elements and trips down memory lane. A fun explorative space that's indoor, air-conditioned, near the famous Maxwell Market food court and China Town and to spot many of the iconic buildings around the Orchard area. Worth a pop-by for a short 2hour exploration of Singapore's past through maps and the impressive, constantly updated city space.
