Silver Eagle
800m walk

Silver eagle does delivery now. Click here for full menu and number!
An oldie but a goodie. Located a little further down from Karachi (Click here for ABBAreview), the place is much smaller in comparison. People spill out onto the street and is reminiscent of Simpang Bedok prata stalls.
Ordered On:
27Nov2015
Everyone's so hungry and tired that there's only very quick photo taking. A whole load of standard orders.
Complimentary serves of:
(Simple vegetable salad, Fried Onion Crispies (A little spicy but pretty nice) and
Egg Omelet with onion/vegetables.)

- Mango Lasi
- Masala Tea
- Bottled Water
- Briyani
- Chicken Tika
 - Cauliflower
- Mutton*Stand out order is definitely the Mutton Curry. Small cutlets of super tender pieces falling right of the bone. Superbly good without the gaminess. well worth the order. *
- Garlic Naan and Chapati Equivalent
The rest of the items were pretty much to Dubai standard.
Each paid 30Dirhams inclusive of tip. Fed 10.
One doesn't even need to look at the menu as seasoned staff make space for crew and know the standard orders. They even picked up our local lingo, repeating your less sugar Masala Tea as Xiu Dai (Less sugar). Quite the entertainer, service and salesman.

Flavor wise comparing to other eateries is like comparing chicken rice in Singapore, its more or less there in flavor. The pluses of eating at Silver Eagle over others is probably the additional freebies, and the nuts and dates shop located right beside, which gives crew discount.

Calicut Notebook

St Petersburg

Getting There

1. Journey time approx 7+ hours by train (sleeper cabin)
2. Price varies with how far ahead you buy the ticket. We paid about $145 SGD for return tickets, when we bought it on the day we wanted to depart.
3. Best to buy on Russian Railways website http://pass.rzd.ru/main-pass/public/en not through the hotel. We saved about 2000 RUB = $40 SGD
4. Register on the website, you will need to access it to print and also a valid email to which the e-ticket will be sent to.
5. Select Moskva - Sankt-Peterburg and choose the date and time required. (Ideally depart at 11pm and you should reach by 7 am) This gives you ample time to move around the city. Most places open at 10am.

6. Select the trains you want to take.
7. Click on Car Plan and then Click on the seats you want. (note if they are male, female or mixed), then close the pop-up window.

8. Do the same for the return leg, then Continue.

Or Jian (Oyster Omelet)

*Sweet local oysters are always the best*
Prawns done two ways

*Pretty decent sized prawns.*

Lala with Garlic
*
Really good. The garlic does have some bite to it and it goes perfectly with the sweet steamed lalas

*Steam Promfret*
A beautiful piece of fish done Teochew Style. With pickled vegetables, bean-curd and mushrooms.*
Steamed Crab
*Pretty good. Little meat to the particular species of crab but fresh*
Claypot Tofu
Chicken
Sambal Kang Kong
Blachan Chicken
*A stand out. Fried well, not overly oily and the blachan gives it a lovely flavor.*
Black Pepper Crab
Fed 8 adults 2 kids Total Approximately 600RM+

It used to be a novelty in its original location, located over the waters to have some decent seafood. But since its shift inland, and increase in prices, its decent seafood, at relatively steep prices by Malaysian standards

Pulau Tikus
(Swee Kong Cafe - Solok Moulmein Road)

Another favorite breakfast joint in Penang. To orders here from the various stalls located in and around the vicinity, all of which are push cart stalls. From Swee Kong, the main ones are the traditional clay pot Ah Pong desserts and Hokkien Mee.
Click here for ABBA location of Pulau Tikus, Swee Kong Cafe 5.430484, 100.312658

Ordered On:
14Nov2015

Hokkien Mee
(Done in a sweet prawn broth, often with mixed yellow and white noodles)
Ah Pom

(Done traditional style in clay pots)
(Indian style crepe dessert)
Everyone goes for the edges cause they are the crispy parts.
The center is nice, fluffy and hot.

Cham Peng

*A local favourite. Coffe and tea mix. Somehow,
Penang just gets the ratio of coffee, tea and sugar right.*
Ban Chan GuiKueh

*Try not to bag it. Have it on the spot. Once bagged, the steam and condensation softens the pastry instantly. A pretty good one to try, but the better one in my book is still located at Fatty's Park. Click here for more info)
Pulau Tikus Market
(Home Made Nonya Guis)

Take an exploratory walk to the adjoining Pulau Tikus Market. There's home made Kueh's which are really good.

Lebanon Restaurant
(Tanjung Bungah)

Penang is known for its local eats, but if you're looking for something different, in a homely, soothingly decor-ed environment and popular among expats, this would be the place to give a try.

Ordered On:
14Nov2015

*Pretty okay. A little on the dry side to be honest but nicely spiced and flavored.*
 Family Naan RM7
Garlic Naan RM9
*The naans were good and of value order.*
Lemon Juice Mint RM10each
*Nice and refreshing. Goes very well with the heavy dishes and cleanses the pallet.*
House Special Grill Chicken Drum Stick RM55
*The star order for sure. Beautiful charring on the chicken. Not at all dry and incredibly juicy. Well worth the order! Their house special as they put it.
*Mandi Chicken RM26
*The basmati rice dish was light and very flavorful. Popular with everyone and another must order!
Extra Lamb Mandi RM20
Fed 6 RM325.31
Authentic Labanon food that can give Dubai's Karachi a run for its money.  A nice ambiance for sure with

Sunshine Farlim

Click here for ABBA location of Sunshine Farlim
A great stop over place for local local eats. The equivalent to Giant (or reduced priced shopping) the place offers a good stop over for a to shop and to eat joint. The to orders here are the Penang Laksa and Famous Chendol. The Otah is a nice addition and pleasant surprise.
Ordered On:
15Nov2015
Penang Laksa

*Authentic stuff and you must have it with additional Heh-kor (sweetish prawn paste)
Interestingly, locals have spring rolls for dipping into the Assam broth. Have a try yourself.

Otah

*Very good otah. A little heavy on the egg whites but the flavor packs in folds. Well worth the order.
Famous Chendol raod along Penang Road (1of4Branches)

The real, local local eats with shopping before or after. What else can you be asking for.

Click here for ABBA location of Sunshine Farlim

Nasi Kandar along Burmber Road
Click here for ABBA location of Nasi Kandar along Burma Road
One of the better Nasi Knadar (Indian Muslim Foods in Penang). They are best known for their secret beef Rendang recepie.

Ordered On:
16Nov2015
The Sotong Eggs (Bottom left) were really good. Most of what was ordered are non spicy and child friendly. One of the best that Nasi Kandar has to order and a return for more eats.
