An all breakfast day location that came recommended by others. First off, it's got really nice decor with some unique design accents. A nice rustic mix of bar and nature coming together very nicely in this cool dining location.
Ordered On:
31July2016
Charred Squid and Chorizo -fried potatoes, Piquillo peppers £8
*Nothing special really and in fact over priced. There were only four pieces of squid that we suspected to be frozen and merely charred with a blow torch. The rest of the ingredients weren't much to scream about and it's best to give this order a skip. Not worth at all.*
Goats Cheese & Basil Gnochi - Roast artichokes, peas, feves, pinenuts £11
*The clear winner for the selection of dishes ordered. The goats cheese was subtle and Gnochi caramelized nicely. It was very delicately done and the shavings of what I suspect to be sharp cheddar shaving over the top really accented the dish. The combination of peas and artichokes worked well together. Fantastic and worth the order!*
Rare Beef Salad - Green papaya, red chili, Thai Basil £11

*Another okay only dish. I felt the combination of flavors and sauces made it taste more
like Yu Seng (A vegetarian dish often served in Singapore during the Chinese New
Year) but Sonia felt its more like Thai mango salad. It was okay, but the disappointment
was definitely the under seasoned or no-season beef. A wasted opportunity.*
Hand-picked Cornish Crab Linguine with chilli - £15
*So-so dish that was under seasoned.*
Curly Kale with Chilli & Ginger £3.50
*Disappointing really. The chill and ginger flavors were non-existent. All you have is oily,
super greens.*
The high society eggs Benedict - poached eggs, lobster, avocado, bacon English
muffin, hollandase £12.50
*Sonia - "V.Good". For the pricing and the look of it, I'd say definitely fair value and
comparable to eggs Benedict's done with crabs found at Cliff House - SFO.*
A couple of drinks inclusive, Total £82.50 fed 3

Looking at the dishes individually, this place doesn't come cheap. Some are fair valued like the eggs Benedict and gnocchi, but the rest, for flavors just did not match up to the asking price.
Balans Soho Society however is not a complete write-off. Their other mains like the burgers and fries look really value-for-money orders and visual appetizing as well. Both of which comparatively to Byron Burgers and Kerbisher and Malt looks just as good. They seem worth the try in another visit or at other chains for a meal.
