Addington Court Motel

Getting here from the airport
There's a bus shuttle charging NZD28 a head and an additional NZD6 per pax.
We elected for the easier though pricier option of taxi from either First Direct or Blue Star (As shared by motel owners to be the cheaper options)
Charging at about NZD100 a night, this was a stop over location for us after a flight down from Auckland. Its pluses are that its located a short distance from the train station for the trans-alpine train which departs daily from Christchurch to Greymouth at 8.30am. They provide a shuttle to that train station. Resident cat, "King" comes free. Free high speed wifi available.

Further more, a short 16mins/1.6km walk down brings you to wholesale shopping, super marketing and Bunnings.
Dining options are plenty down main street and we dined at
Maxine's Palace (a.ka. Tang Cheow)
Ordered On:
29June2016
Half Peiking Duck NZD28
Beef NZD22
Sweet and sour Soup NZD7

Peiking Duck is the star here. All done in-house and daily, their duck was well worth it. Super crispy skin, nice chunky cuts of meat layered with fat. If ever you stayed at this motel, this place came recommended by the business owners of the motel, you have to try the duck here. Really to world class standards!
Total NZD65. Fed2
Based on our needs, proximity to getting to the train station early, a good night's rest with amenities and good duck nearby, what more can one ask for.

10 Cottages - Granz Joseph Glacier
30June2016
Another stop over joint after the long, but enjoyable Tranzalpine Train ride, combined with a stop over at Hokitika Gorge. (More of a detour thou on the map its along the way. However, its still well worth it. Click here for full review.) We short listed this place as a stop-over joint, rather than rush the entire west coast to Queens Town. Decent accommodations, fast free wi-fi and a stone's throw away Franz Jospeh Glaciers.
Alice May Restaurant and Bar came recommended. Comes with a 10% discount off non-set meal items for traditional NZ meals

*Tomato soup was pretty good. Nice and tangy.*
*Lamb Shank was well prepared. The bush carrots were super sweet.*
*Pretty much to standard, creamy pasta.*
*Nice presentation of dessert. Real cream, sugar on sugar on sugar.*
Total NZD65 Fed2
Pretty decent eats in a nice environment. You don't have that many options around these small towns. The restaurant along the main street serves even larger portions. The restaurant does have an interesting back story found on its menu.

Mecure Queenstown Resort
(Queens Town)

Great view for sure with a pretty okay location. The township is 2.4km down the road, but due to the skiing season, this was the more affordable of the locations at about 200NZD a night. Service staff are really helpful and there's complimentary (okay speed) wifi for a free club membership sign up.
A taxi ride to town center goes for about 14NZD, but there is also a bus service which runs half hourly at 7NZD a round trip.

Located just outside of the town center, Mecure Resort Queenstown

Lake Tekapo Cottages

A short 5mins walk to town with a basic kitchen and condiments to get you to enjoy your cabin in the woods.
Free High Speed Wifi is also available.

Belmont Motor Inn
Nice space and good location. Rooms are pretty spacious with an adjoining kitchenette as well. The place is located not too far from town, and a short drive to the airport. Ideal for our night stopping needs. Free wifi avaiable but with limited data of 512mbs.
