A
recommendation from Glen who searched for Hong Kong's best eats whilst on his
own food eating trail. To him, this place serves the best Pineapple Bun and
coffee.
Hong Lin restaurant is primarily a breakfast/light eats joint located nearest to Mongkok Station. It's a great pit stop anytime of the day before one carries on a day of shopping, or exploration at gold fish alley.

A piece
of heaven! A beautiful, crispy-sweet exterior with a lightly buttered center.
Where the pineapple flavors come from, I've got no idea, but it's so, so good.
A respectable sized bun to the start of any day. The coffee is very thick and
strong, and would fulfill anyone's caffeine needs. Like much of Hong Kong's
Milk Teas, the milk tea here is defiantly to a good, Hong Kong Standard.
Overall,
a good place for a pit stop or to start of the day.

BBQ Pork Bun
BBQ Pork Bun
*Their
version of BBQ Pork bun. Flavors are there, just that it's a little more dense
and heavier take other BBQ pork bun variants. It still looses out to the iconic
BBQ Pork buns by Michelin-Stared Restaurant Tim Ho Wan located, just a station
down at Sham Sui Po. Same-same yet different.*
*To Hong Kong standard and nothing really to scream about.*
Suckling Pig HKD180
*This is
what everyone is aiming for! Sales for suckling big starts only from noon
onwards and sells out fast. Many locals come here just for a serving of
suckling pig. The MUST ORDER. There's no gaminess to the tender meat and its
skin is extra crispy. The accompanying sauce for the suckling pig was well
balanced and not overly salty.*
Kai Lan x2 order. Total HKD90

*I don't
know how they cook their vegetables so beautifully. A sweet serving of
vegetables cooked with ginger that have the wok-fry flavor. Incredibly
refreshing, fragrant and so good that we ordered another plate. The ginger is
not at all overwhelming*
*Today's
batch was tougher than usual.*Fed:3 Total HKD513
The stars
here are definitely the suckling pig and vegetable (Kai Lan) order. All you
need is a hot bowl of rice are you're set for a meal, best to be shared by 2-3
people. Will return for that combination for sure!

A lucky

*I was
expecting the non-fragrant Thai Durians, but was gladly mistaken. Pungent,
delicious, glorious serving of during paste! Definitely for durian lovers, with
at least half the bowl filled with the delicious paste. Although its slightly
more expensive than you would get for a similar bowl in Singapore, but you get
larger serving of the paste, well worth the order*
House soup desert with Mango, Grapefruit and Soup HKD38
*Top
marks. A very generous supply of sweet
mango chunks, with a pleasant balance of grapefruit accents. Not overly sweet
and very refreshing, The place might give, other popular mango dessert joint,
Hui Lau Shan a run for its money.

It was
shared this place maybe slightly more expensive than other places by about
12HKD, but the dessert here's nice.
*Not so
exciting. A little too watered down to taste, and too much salasi seeds that
makes it texturally seemingly slimy*

softer, crispier interior type of tarts at HKD5.50 per piece.

Consensus
from most of the group was that although it is oily, but its extremely flaky
and has a hint of yam flavor to its base crust. Almost similar to MacDonald's
Singapore seasonal Yam pies.
As the
name very aptly puts it, this place is located under the bridge. Famous for its
succulent sweet crab, cooked with it's blend of special spices and incredibly
delicious garlic bits. Incredible flavor and having been featured by and served
to a number of celebrities as well.

*This
time we went with chili leveled spice. Very palatable and not all that spicy
that it blows away the taste of the meat. No need for ice water to douse the
heat. Perhaps one could go up another 2-3 more levels to have some real heat.

goes well with the entire meal.*

Not as oily as expected. More of a wok fry to the succulent front meat and was
served with delicious mushrooms. A reorder for sure*

In all
honesty, the rest of the dishes aren't that expensive. It's the crab that's the
heaviest cost. Though good, our medium order was small and expensive for that
price, but one can only get this great tasting, uniquely cooked crab here.
Still desperately looking for a cheaper alternative elsewhere.

Smallest Crab HKD480
*The star for sure. I've never had such good, sweet crab meat in a long time and it delivered in spades. When ordering, The garlic fry with their special spicy blend, could be adjusted to your spice tolerance. We went for the lowest one possible. They can do no spice as well. Incredible flavor and its best enjoyed when fresh out! The shallots were the accents to the dish and the garlic mix concoction a perfect pairing with warm rice. Try to ignore the amount of oil use, but ones gotta get down and dirty when eating this delicious crab. Price point wise would probably be market price in Singapore as well. Local Hong-Konger commented that although it is undeniably good and known, it is on the pricey side. There are places, though not yet found, of crab cooked the same way but a bit cheaper. Will try hunting for those next time but it's undeniably good.*
Vegetables HKD50
*A slightly different take from the usual garlic and minced meat. Its more of a preserved vegetables mix. Still taste great but perhaps we shouldn't have ordered a fried dish after another fried dish.*
*The wait staff was sharing how famous their roast pork was with their 5, distinctly layered roast pork. The fat was marbled and their accompanying mustard wasn't that spicy and was a lovely pairing. The only critic was that it could have more of a crispier skin. Place in my opinion still looses out to the crispy pork served in King Cuisine Lvl7 located opposite Park Lane Hotel.*
Total Fed 2 HKD739
Yeap it
doesn't come cheap. Perhaps the meal above could have just about fed 3 where an
additional side order would be just about right. Their smallest crab is
actually really quite large by Singapore standards. Probably a medium to large
sized one. I'll definitely return for the amazing crab and up the spice level.
With that said, this place is really more for a good eat, celebratory meal for
special occasions. Will try hunting for local cheaper alternative the next time
around.
P.S
(Kudos to customer service)

Fern's
all time favorite. Refreshing Longan flavors with Nara De CoCo on top. Its not
really my thing and it sound silly to say that it needs to be wetter
considering it's ice. Personally I prefer a saucier/soupier sort of dessert.
Refreshing none the less and the queue that follows doesn't lie about its
popularity.

A recommendation from both Sharlene (who ate there the day before) and Rebecca (a local Hong Konger), this pork curry joint is a huge hit amongst busy Hong Kongers. Packed on arrival at 1300hrs, there were loads of customers taking single to group orders to go! So did I due to the lack of seating.
