Singapore - To Do 29Nov2020 (Singapore Science Center)

Science Center Singapore
1Km walk from Jurong East MRT
Science Center is the main attraction here but there are also other off site attractions within the area. These are namely, Snow city, Omni-Theatre and Kidzstop with a large indoor hands-on play activity center. We opted for science center this time round which had a temporary pop-up moving display of living animals for 16SGD for adults and 12SGD for kids >3yrs of age.

Within Science Center there are also some ticketed experiences at a nominal fee.

Science Center standard purchases prices are 8SGD for kids and 12SGD for adults (comes with $5 curiosity shop store credit) for Adults. Click here for latest Pricing at Singapore Science Center
 Temporary Exhibit with Living Worlds
*Great number of interactive displays which are all totally kid friendly and suitable for all ages.*
*Mini Omnimax video that goes on a loop. Dramatic, education and immersive.*
*More fun digital and interactive displays*

*Augmented reality. Btw its 10sgd for the print*
Living world was fantastic for all ages. Loads of varying interactive displays, from the jungle, to the sea and arctic. Well worth the little premium on ticket prices, which also includes entry to Singapore Science Center. Worth to check it out before 3rdJan2021 swings around.

The Science Center itself is too large to cover given the limited 3hour visit slot due Covid. (1hour is set a side for disinfection daily. AM session from 10-1pm and PM session from 2-5pm.) Although the structure originally built in 1977 has gone though some additions and alteration, some section still has the 70s-80s vibe to it. However, many of the displays look updated and modern, thou there are some remnants of the throwback years.

*A classic Rube Goldberg machine giving off that 80s vibe.*
*Some of displays seem a blast from the past. Still good fun and educational!*
*How we sense fear. A mini 'haunted house' installation.*

*Very picturesque and large mirror mazes to go exploring! Way bigger than that of Jewel's mirror maze*

The Singapore Science Center is definitely worth another revisit to check out all the little nook and crannies. Overall a fun-filled educational experience suitable for all ages. Too bad visit times are cut by half due Covid-19.

The place has even more to offer pre-Covid with major displays/shows and even an outdoor water play area which are worthy of mentioning. Till better times hopefully in the near future.

Simple and reasonably priced dining options are available on-site for that mid-afternoon snack/lunch.

The new norm in a post Covid-19 world. Order sheets a filled up and sent to attentive wait staff.

Soup and Canapes come as a standard before the meal even starts.

*Lack luster. The Oysters weren't very sweet. The snow crabs small and shashimi standard was honestly sub-par especially for a place such as Mandarin Oriental. Average and can get better shashimi buffett standard from Irodori.*
*White bait and sweet potato pretty average. The fry was very light and crispy thou.*
*A hard pass on the overcooked Teppanyaki Salmon*
*
Teppanyaki beef cubes were excellent*
*Of the three Foie Gras options (Chwanamushi with non-existant flavors, Sushi and pictured above the miso-seared version), this was by far the clear and only winner. It could use a longer sear on the Foie Gras but the sweetness of the radish helps balance out the overall richness of the entire dish.
*Mushroom Risotto was beautifully done and a standout.*
*Chilli Crab sauce was on point but would have been better with crab. The fish maw vegetables fairly standard.*
*Garlic fried rice with 'crab meat'. More attractive text over the actual flavors.*

*Chocolate Lava Cake was the standout here!*

Food 3.5/5
Ambience 2/5

*For the price that one pays,
the decor of Tripple Three looks very dated, cold and uninviting.*
Service 4.5/5
*Supereb. Wait staff were generally attentive, quick for refills and
very prompt to deliver food table side. Additional request was handled by black suited wait professionally with a welcoming demeanor. A very pleasant dining expereince.*
Value 2.5/5
*Even with the promo (seond diner at 50% off) , the ambience and food freshness were more of a let down. There were some standouts but majority of it were average.*

Its a first time going for a modified buffet meal and it does have some pros and cons.
Pros:
- One doesn't need to move about.
- Dishes are nicely presented to you.
Cons:
- One isn't able to see or control portion sizes
- The visual freshness or appeal of choice selections is out of your hands.
- Selection choices also may come with extras that one may not consume.

Overall, the themed night for Foie Gras isn't really that value. The themed dish could have been used in more prominant methods.

Apart from a few stand out dishes, the miso Foie Gras, sour dough bread for the soup starter, teppanyaki beef cubes, risotto and lava chocolate cake, the rest were pretty average and honestly forgetable. A disappointment, especially for Triple Three which was in its heyday located on the a high floor (33rd floor I think) was known for outstanding views and superb meals. For better quality shashimi, as mentioned Irodori is a great value alternative and for a seafood focused buffet,  Hotel Jen J65 offers a good quality and better value deal.

For themed eats, for the overall expereience, Lime at Pickering would be a better option.

Singapore - To Do 06Nov20 Alkaff Lakeside 4 Elemental Themed Playgrounds

Alkaff Lake View Four Elemental Playgrounds
300m From Woodleigh MRT Station
BLK118A Ground Floor Waves
BLK115B Lvl3 Wetlands
LVL4 Roof Terrace x2 Cloud and Mountain Playground
City in Nature, Singapore National Parks vision. This tiered playground plays with nature and elements. Note that this is not a wet playground. For a wet playground, the free to enter Garden's By the Bay Children's Garden is highly recommended.
ABBATip:
All four playgrounds are located at Alkaff Lakeview HDB Project and the entire place is interconnected so it doesn't matter where you start.

You can take a lift to the roof terrace and make your way down through the playgrounds or vice-versa. The map may look large but its a short 5min walk at most from end to end.

Waves Ground Floor Blk118A
*Nice long bouncing track, two slides on either end.
Probably the most photogenic of the four playgrounds*

Wetlands Lvl3 Blk115B

*Probably the least interesting of the playgrounds. This one is catered to the younger ones.*

Clouds Roof Terrace Lvl4

Mountains Roof Terrace Lvl4
*Offers the best chill-out, sit down spot in the estate. Nice semisheltered bench for a party of 5 to sit together.*

Alkaff Lakeview Residence has a great spread of interesting to explore playgrounds all in one location. The flora work into the rooftop garden is commendable too.

The enjoyability/playfactor varies which each of the elemental location but with easy parking and more amenities to come in future, its a nice unique playground to explore.

Singapore - To Do (01Nov20) Tiong Bahru Park's Tilting Inception Train Plaground

Tiong Bahru Park
Tilting Train Playground
400m from Tiong Bahru MRT Station
Tiong Bahru Park, is primarily by its iconic Tilting/Inception train. One of the many more unique playground designs in Singapore.
A nice, quaint park with washroom facilities and water cooler on-site. There's also\ sheltered, sit-down picnic spots too.
The Tilting train playground features lots of slides and the sheltered sand play beneath the train seems to be the main attraction here. The park also has some cactuses to climb and rare to find flying foxes (Jurong Lake Gardens has a beautiful one set up click here for more details.)
ABBATIP:
Bring beach toys/mats
Car Park is relatively small so parking maybe a bit of an issue.

More sand play and really uniquely design train setup. The tilts add some challenge and dimension to the obstacles . The sand does however make it a little bit slippery on the inclines. Good thing is that there are wash points to clean up over there!
