Grilled African Beef sausage, Miele pop croquette and barbecue relish AUD14

*An interesting order. Beef sausage boldly flavored with an excellent char. Their crispy croquette is similar to a savory friend carrot cake from back home.*

Kangaroo (Med Rare)

Kangaroo Lamb Fillet marinated in native Bush spice, char grilled and served with chat potatoes, tomato chutney and crispy onion rings  AUD35

By far the best and highlight dish for the night. A house special and also a popular order. It definitely wins the most local produce award. Tender meat slices with a sweet chutney at the bottom and pairs perfectly with the crispy onion ring toppings and rustic potatoes. A definite reorder and possible return just for this. If you've never tried kangaroo before, this would be a good option to try a well prepared and thought out dish.

The other recommendation was of course their Waygu steaks. However, it was my mistake for following the 'expert advice' of the wait staff. She had suggested, that becuase of Waygu higher fat content, she and chef recommends a medium cook. What a mistake. A beautiful cut, resulting in a tougher meat slices with seemingly insufficient marbling to compensate for the medium cook. To me, medium rare or less is probably the only way to have quality steak.

Other than that, to me a wrong doneness for the cook. I really should have asked for a return of the order, in exchange for a medium rare. As expected for such a dining establishment, steaks were served on warmed plates and often sides and sauces come at a premium charge.

 Great atmosphere with the star dish definitely being the Kangaroo. The happy hour bar prices are very reasonable in a posh environment.

How to get there - From Hotel Rendezvous turn right walk along Flinders, then turn left cross the road and bridge to Freshwater Place.
It's beside TGIF, just a 5 mins walk.

 

Verdict - I had the Monte Black and I say it's better than Lawry's and Mortons( sg at least). If big group better to make reservation.
