Day1
Alcatraz Day Tour
USD38
(Inclusive of Audio Walking Guide)

Well worth it, especially with the walking tour. Grab a boat ride from Pier 35 for a 20min ride to The Rock. Catch a spectacular view of the Bay Area and the golden gate bridge. Remember to bundle up, when on the upper decks where the wind chill factor really gets you. Boat return timings are seen throughout and run on a frequent basis.
Unlike other audio tour books, this one was done superbly. The best I've heard and thoroughly enjoyable. Its not just a monotone individual reading of facts and trivia, but a full on, sound effects, voice actor, background noises and all to give you to full effect and feel of the place. Instructions are clear and walking point to point easy to follow and understand. Audio book lasts about 45mins and can start and stop at any time to snap some pictures along the way.
Beside the audio tour, one could walk the grounds freely and enjoy the communal gardens. Initially setup by some inmates long ago and now maintained by communal groups, today it supports a respectable range of flora and fauna. On this visit, we saw a humming bird for the very first time.

Also there are selected talks that occur at various timings around the island at different locations of the jail. The video below shows the talk on opening and closing of these iconic gates and the depressing sounds that inmates hear everyday.

Really good tour and well worth the visit especially with the complimentary tour guide. Perhaps watch The Rock, staring Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery to build up more hype before visiting this moument.

Cable Car Ride
USD6 one way

Perhaps thanks to the all time low temps recorded in San Fran during this visit, that the queue lines were extremely short. A great ride up these undulating slopes, and surely beats having to walk back. Best to visit the Cable Car Museum as well to get a better appreciation of how this iconic piece of transportation works. Click here for Review of the Cable Car Museum.

Day2
(05DEC2013)

Mythbusters M5 Industries
(Home of the Mythbusters)

A pilgrimage of sorts for fans of the show. The great people at Mythbusters who do good work for the making science and physics fun for the next generation. What seasme street has done for preschoolers, is to what the Mythbusters do for science.Getting there

One can get there by either bus 19, or walk from Costco, which is what we had done. A 20% gradient slope await those who choose to walk, but you get a great view of the bay bridge.
