Hong Kong - To Do (SQ2 1stDec2013) (Vicctoria Park, HKG Museum of Art, The Peak, Action Figures and Collectables)

(2ndDec2013)
Victoria Park
Yes, a review of a park. But for the fitness guru inside you, this is but a small nudge toward outdoor activities in Hong Kong. There are also several known hiking trails, offering the spectacular views around Hong Kong, shared by fellow crew, T.A) and range in difficulty and duration. With trails like the Dragon Back, will review one of these scenic hikes in future. Starting really small with Victoria Park.

I got a set of Sushi ankle socks for HKD88.

Lighters with DF928 (Don't forget Sepetember 28th. Yellow Umbrella moment)

A respectable sized park located in front of Park Lane Hotel. People watch the early risers, engaging in their morning routines, as the sunrise catches the reflections of the towering buildings, synonymous with Hong Kong's skyline.

Hong Kong Museum of Art

Entry: HKD10 for Adults.

A four leveled museum with a sporadic spread of arts, from interactive installations, to contemporary, transiting to the more traditional in its varying mediums. Can't complain for a 10HKD entry and some pieces were quite intriguing. E.g. robotic chicken/floating house/ view from above/ modern take n Chinese paintings.
Shown above was one of the more interesting art installations which was put into the Hong King River. The small house represented the shrinking apartment sizes, while rowing ores on either side represented the continuous need to work to survive in this rough times, aptly represented by the choppy waters this small flotation device sits in.

The Peak

Getting There
> Alight at Central station and walk towards Exchange Square
> Take Bus no.15 all the way to the peak. A single way journey should costs approx 9+HKD.
> To get back, take the iconic tram which also accepts the Octopus card as well.

ABBA Tip:
- Taking the bus grants you a great view of the city and around the island as you ascend to the peak.
Depending on the time, it'd be best to go up b other means of transport as opposed to the tram to avoid the long queue times.

A shopping mall with dining, shopping, as well as a Mdm Tussaud's awaits you at the peak. To get to the utmost point of the mall, costs another 40HKD for entry. A little steep considering it costs just as much to get up to the peak.

The Audio Guide serves more as a ear warmer than anything else. Difficult and clumsy to use, adding little to no value. However the view is indeed breath taking. The iconic tram ride is also a must, for one to experience the incredibly steep climb it takes to make it to the top.

Action Figures and Collectables
For Collectors or getting gifts for your young ones. These three locations have a lot to offer. A pseudo walk down memory lane with near mint in box retro toys from the 80s and more. If that doesn't suit your fancy, there are lots of figurines, collectables hailing from pop culture and various movies.
ABBATip:
- Shops do not fully open till late! Arriving after 3pm or later is preffered, especially so for Richmond's Building and In's Point located near Mong Kok.
- Prices are pretty much set. But yet again, there is no harm in trying.

Toy Zone
290m from Tai Koo Station
A real shady location, with retro grated lifts to bring you up to the 4th floor of this tucked away haven. A museum of sorts selling all things retro and new as well. Though most of the packed figures boxes aren't in their best conditions, but the walking up and down the isles do bring back memories. Also avaialable here are hot toys collectables at reasonable prices.

Richmond Commercial Building

270m from Mong Kok Station

Take a look at the pictures below for an idea of what they have available for sale. Note that shops tend to start opening from 3pm onwards. Even at 3.30pm, about 35% of them were open or opening. Later is better. A basement floor down and if I do remember correctly, 3 stories up of toys and collectables.

CTMA Centre
Hot Toys Flag Ship Store
500m from Mong Kok Station
For fans of Hot Toys, visit their flag ship store. In fact it was a little underwhelming, with a more impressive display of craftsmanship seen at their ever popular road shows. But this is the place to see Hot Toys. Although they have their products up on shelves, most of them have either been bought or pre-ordered. Merely a shop front and for fans of their products to visit. The building itself has a sporadic sprinkling of shops tending towards the Anime Mecha Genre.

Tsui Yuen Mansion Phase 2
BB guns Galore

A weapon enthusiast dream. Accurately weighted and great builds. Unfortunately a definate no no into Singapore. Check your local laws on what you can or cannot bring back to your country. But its definitely great fun to take a browse. Wall to wall weapons and even replica bazookas for sale!
In's Point
(nearest station Yau Ma Tei Exit B1)
Amazing 3 stories of, I'd say the best spread of collection as compared to the rest of items seen in CTMA center and Richmond Building Combined. Used toys, retro collectables, hot toys, transformers and more. A good spread of both western and asian pop culture.
Entire Store dedicated to Batman

Fuk Wing Street
Home of mostly Bootleg and Cheap Toys(Nearest station Sham Sui Po)
