Roast Goose King 燒鵝大王
(100m form Sham Shui Po D1 exit)
As the name goes, famous for their goose.

Located in Sham Shui Po, near to all the cheap electronic at Apilu street and Golden Comptuer Center, here's the famous goose joint in Mongkok (As researched online and confirmed by the local seating across form me). Sure it's no Michelin star, but if you're in the area doing some shopping, here's a delicious and affordable alternative.
 Ordered On:

Roast Goose with Char Siew. Comes with vegetables

*The char siew was good! Tender, fatty and that little bit of char was the oomph factor.
The goose could use more fat and some cuts, I got were on the tough side. Portion serving
was large and served over a bed of steaming hot rice, perfect. They drizzle a little of the
goose drippings/fat/flavor over the rice which was fantastic! The local seating across form me, recommended that I try the roast pork which I "healthily" omitted. It look good from the tables next door though with distinct layering.*
Fed1 HKD53
I saw lots of people ordering the soup, which I suspect to be chicken feet and pork bone. Its way too much for one and probably a meal on its own.
An order of the soup comes at 9HKD.

Here, they also serve up some steamed dishes that patrons were lapping up as well.

Kung Wo Dou Bun Chong
公和荳品廠
(170m from Sham Shui Po MTR Exit D1)
Famous for their Tofu everything

Ordered On:

Cold Bean Curd 8HKD

*How authentic can it get? Not that I know how bean curd dessert are made, but it's so
cool to see her scooping out of that giant clay pot, which by the way was near empty on
my visit at 2pm. Bean curd was nice! You can add the orange sugar available table side to your sweetness liking. Their other signature dishes are the fried bean-curd and soya milk. A nearer alternative located at Causeway bay, that's known for similar tofu dishes can be found at
Yan Wo Dou Bun Chong 人和荳品廠 (Click here for full review)

King Of Coconut

Located near Yau Ma Tei Station
Ordered On:
04March2016

Small cup of their famous coconut drink at 12HKD
*Nothing special really. I think its a blend of coconut milk, coconut juice and I think blended up shredded coconut. Still refreshing none the less.*
Ordered on:
09March2016

*Both found the drink refreshing!*

Mido Cafe
located near Yau Ma Tei and
Temple Street

Famous for their bake BBQ pork rice dish.

This place is really loved by Art Directors for its preserved interior. A picturesque Cha Chan Tang that serves up localized takes on western favorites. They are most known for their Baked Spare Rib with Tomato sauce.
Ordered On:

Baked Spare Rib with Tomato Sauce HKD68
Pineapple Ice HKD25

*Nothing special really. The spare ribs were really tender, but that about it. Its like having the meat prepared sweet and sour pork style with a fried coating. The tomato sauce, I can't put my finger on off what its similar to. If you think its anything remotely close to Italian tomato base, you're dead wrong. The rice itself is however very reminiscent of primary school fried rice you used to have at the canteen (Like rice with egg and oil). Comfort food. Probably the food and the 60s interior
invokes nostalgia among guest. Its not that cheap for what you are getting. In my opinion, the place is more for an experience and its setting rather than food.*

93HKD Fed 1.
Temple Street is just located 200m from Mido.

Located a short walk from time square is Xin Dau Ji, famously known for their suckling pig!
Ordered On:
10March2016
House Special Roasted Suckling Pig 1/4 HKD188 (Just enough for 4 people)
*Incredible! Super crispy skin! I mean probably the crispiest I've had in a long while. You don't have to wait for wedding dinners to enjoy suckling pig. Have their signature dish here. In all honesty, I would have gone for more but we wanted to try the other dishes*Deep-Fried Fish Fillet with Sweet Corn Sauce HKD158

*Another specialty. Very meaty fish and with a lovely fry exterior. Nothing special really, but it is very meaty. The sweet corn sauce is more of a soup than a sauce really. It needed a little something more than just the corn sauce.*
Deep Fried Bean Curd with Dried Scallop HKD88

*Something different. They mixed tofu with some ingredients, and have it re-fried. Interesting good but not a wow!*
Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs HKD98

*Very nicely done. With sufficient fry, tender meat and the sour balancing out very nicely.*
Pan-Fried Egg Noodle with Bean Sprouts in Soya Sauce HKD72

*Very nicely done. Its not too greasy and everyone else in the restaurant was ordering it as well. It didn't over power the rest of the dishes.*
Simple Kai Lan
*The Hong Kong vegetables are always done very nicely. Sweet and never over cooked*
Total Fed 4 at 204HKD per pax
Come here for the suckling pig for sure! That's what they are most known for. As for the rest of the dishes, most of decent Hong Kong joints serve up the standard fares to good standing. We ordered most of signature dishes, with the noodles probably being the stand out. The Sweet and sour spare ribs weren't too bad, but the rest, nothing really speical. Probably the order combination would be noodles and focus on the SUCKLING PIG.

Capital Cafe
 (recommended by Andrew)
Signature dishes are Milk Tea/Toast With Scrambled Egg/Crispy Bun with Sweet Condensed Milk. Recommended to order the Truffle Scrambled Eggs
Breakfast/light eats joint which is open from
0700-2300hrs

An ABBA recommended joint, this place is conveniently located around the block of 298 electronic shopping. Hence, location wise, its perfectly located for pre or post shopping light eats. The interior has a cool nostalgic feel to it, and like true Hong Kong style, they pack the tables tight and keep them filled.
 Ordered On:
18Aug2016

Yin Yang, Milk Tea and French Toast 66HKD
 Fed2 66HKD Total
*You can't go very wrong with the Milk Tea here, and its actually one of the much better ones I've had. In fact, in my opinion, it better than the one served at Honolulu Cafe Across the junction. The french toast is thick and lovely and with the drizzling of honey over makes it just the right kind of breakfast to be had. Will return again especially if enroute to Wan Chai Toy alley or 298 electronics shopping for something light and/or on the go. Perfect!*
