Cycling Tour Around the City
03July2014
Although there are several cycling agents in and around the city, however, one cannot deny the convenience of renting from the hotel directly at €15 for an entire day.
Price ranges around the +€3 range or more.
The reason for price differences, as shared and later learned were a result of the different seating on bicycles.
Points to note before riding around.
- Helmets are not required.
- Cyclist have designated cycling lanes and like cars on a road traffic, they have unidirectional flow in their respective lanes.
- Most bicycles are single gear bicycles and have retrofitted handbrakes, or require a
reverse paddle for breaking action.
Bicycle rentals review: Marriott Hotel Bicycles
- Seats gave everyone a soar ride at the end of, perhaps 2 1/2 to 3hr cumulative riding.
To the unseasoned rider, riding throughout the day may very quickly result in a test of
mantle. We are unsure if other bicycle rental companies faired any better with their
seats.
- A very simple to use locking mechanism. Check for spare bicycle chain to group lock
bicycles together.

- Convenient basket in front, designed specifically to carry a 6-pack home.
- Inconsistencies in bicycles. Check before riding for example, a sluggish braking mechanism for one and a rough ride for another.
When Cycling in Amsterdam, the park was an absolute joy. Simple, easy riding grounds
with lots of open spaces for various outdoor activities on going.

However when transiting over to an urban landscape, such as main shopping street, the joy quickly turns to start-stop frustration. One has to constantly watch out for traffic and the troves of pedestrians. Your objective, from cycling, quickly devolves to a rapid dismount and having to circumnavigate through the seas of people. Hardly worth the rental when you have to push your bike along.

Would I recommend it? A ride in the parks and less crowded places with some tourist attractions nearby. Absolutely! A great way to cover the city and people watch.
However, to ride the back alleys, away from main shopping streets, over cobble stones, cumulated with painful seating. No Thankyou.

For your consideration and importance of route planning, for future bicycle adventures when in Amsterdam.
