- Tickets can be gotten on the bus! Pre-purchased or at the station. So its very easy.
- Go for the Waterland area ticket for €12.59. You can also just tap on and off with your credit card. €5.80 each way if going there and back. It works out about the same as the Waterland Day Ticket at €12.59 for unlimited regional bus travel in Waterland area of Voldendam & Marken. You might as well go for this for the flexibility and greater exploration.

Volendam is a historic Dutch fishing village near Amsterdam, known for its preserved traditions, folk costumes, vibrant harbor, and role in Dutch pop music and art history. As shared by the Harbor Master in the area, the buildings here are re-creations whilst those in Marken are in their original state.

Highly recommended. For my flavor profile preferences they had cheeses which I didn't see in other cheese shops in town and went for some. Like most cheese shops, they give samples!

A family run smoke-house specializing in seafood. The Harbor Master marketed it so-well with the back story of the restaurant and the must-try traditional Dutch dish - Eel cooked in butter. It sounded nice so we took the short walk along the harbor to give it a try!

In summary, for the nice story behind the place and the experience. We now know what traditional Dutch favorite must haves are like. It's alright but for the price if not sharing is a little steep.

Its possible to get there by bus. From Volendam, one can take the Volendam Express at €10 one way and €16 for a return. They advert scenic views but those are only on the exiting and entering of each port. .png)

Here are some of the more iconic and scenic boat rides one should take. The boat ride across was pretty slow and rather just a means of transport. Best views were pulling out and into port unfortunately.

Marken offers the most authentic and visually unique villages. These homes here are quaint and mostly in their original form as opposed to Volendam which are largely rebuilt and newer.

The church interior features ship models and memorials honoring fishermen lost at sea, reflecting Marken’s deep maritime heritage and the community’s close ties to the ocean.
There's not much to see in Marken and if you had to pick one town, stick with Voldendam. That was plenty to see and do there for a great near full day out activity. The boat ride across lacked luster and it is, as shared a very small town. (Marken)
