Contrary to popular belief, the John Rylands Library had never appeared in Harry Potter films but supposedly did inspire some of the visuals of Hogwarts. Walking about the place really does feel like it.

Free to enter and loads of picturesque spots. A fully working library for anyone to go in and study. With tons of ancient books and references on all walls. Amazingly all of these can be viewed in a special room by members (free to join). Amazing space to enjoy and little write-ups to color the history of the place.

Even their toilets have the vibes from where Myrtle and Harry scenes.
A cool place for breakfast in a unique Victorian Toilet setting is The Attendant in London.

Day1

Ortaköy Mosque

Ortaköy Mosque, also known as Büyük Mecidiye Camii, stands gracefully on the shores of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Turkey, blending Baroque and Neoclassical architectural styles.

Absolutely stunning. Quaint, beautiful and made iconic with its crystal chandeliers. Free to enter and picturesque inside and out along the coast of the famous Bosphorus shores. In the back drop the Temmuz Sehitler Bridge connecting the Europe and Asia sides.

Ortaköy Square

Everywhere is selling their Kumpir, a huge baked potato with mixed fillings at about 200TL. It didn't sit too well with us. Perhaps we needed a mix of the lot to have the true positive experience.  A nice space with great panoramic views and a couple of souvenir shops located on every corner.

Mini-Bosphorus cruise from Ortaköy Square

A great location to hop onto Ortaköy ferry station (25TL/person to tap once with credit card) to either take the public transport to where you'd wanna go or hop on a guided cruise at about 200TL which spans an hour in the same area.

We took the boat from Ortakoy ferry terminal to Eminönü which was about a 30min scenic ride with great views.

*Pretty respectable vesserl to people move up and down the river. Check with the staff which timing vessel to catch for the right direction you're going to!*

It serves a great alternative transport and to have scenic views of the coastline and some iconic buildings.

Local Fish Market & Local Hardware Alley

Click here for ABBA location of Fish market located just after crossing the Galata Bridge. After which when walking towards the Kamondo Stairs and Galata Tower brings you through very local interesting hardware and some home-ware shops.

Kamondo Stairs

Kamondo Stairs: 19th-century marvel in Istanbul's Galata district, commissioned by the Kamondo family. Ornate marble steps with wrought-iron railings connect Bankalar Caddesi and the iconic Galata Tower.

Galata Tower

Historical Legacy: Built in the 14th century, it served as a watchtower, lighthouse, and prison.

The Aqueduct of Valens

The Aqueduct of Valens, built in the 4th century AD by Emperor Valens in Istanbul, Turkey, supplied water to Constantinople. It spans 970 meters, showcasing Roman engineering, and some parts remain standing today, adding to Istanbul's architectural heritage.

Prices and entry have changed dramatically from its original entrance fee 25TL in Nov2023. Still magical as ever and really picturesque in the early morning with the rising sun shining in and pigeons flying freely inside this massive structure.

The Grand Bazaar & Egyptian Spice Bazaar

*The Spice Bazaar gives a more welcoming vibe but there's a lot of touting from the competing stalls. The Grand Bazaar gets a little overwhelming with things repeating after.*
