Amalienborg Palace
(700m from Kongens Nytorv st)

- Winter Home of the Danish Royal Family.

If the flag is up, it would indicate that the Royal Family was within the premises. The place, is a huge open court yard surrounded with four other palaces on all sides. If you happened to be there approximately at noon, there is a changing of the guards which due to lack of surrounding 'attractions' I did not stay on for.
Wiki Source *Amalienborg is guarded day and night by Royal Life Guards (Den Kongelige Livgarde). The guard march from Rosenborg Castle at 11.30 am daily through the streets of Copenhagen, and execute the changing of the guard in front of Amalienborg Palace at noon. In addition, post replacement is conducted every two hours.

When the Queen is in residence the The King's Guard (Kongevagt) also march alongside the changing the guard at noon, accompanied by a band that plays traditional military marches. The Guard Lieutenant (Løjtnantsvagt) is always alerted when Prince Henrik or another member of the royal family are reigning in absence of the Queen.*

A little trivia to entice one to pop into this church, located just north of Amalienborg Palace. Its popularly known as the marble church, and has the largest church dome in Scandinavia with a span of 31m, although there are 3 larger domes elsewhere in Europe.

Take a short break from the cold and be wrapped in the warmth of this tranquil church. Take the time to admire its carvings an decorations. Like many other churches in Europe, it's always amazing in their own unique ways.

Christmas Markets (Seasonal)
At Nyhavn Canal and at Hojbro Plads

(400m from Kongens Nytorv st)

There's probably only a handful of shops that line Nyhavn (click here for Review of Nyhavn Canal), with some of them being repeated. The usual roasted nuts, waffle sweet savories, Churros and Glogg.

Glogg here at 25KR was cheaper than at the Christmas Markets over at Hojbro Plads.

Am not sure if this is a Christmas only drink, but it's boiled red wine with all the christmassy ingredients like resins, almond nuts and cinnamon. An interesting, sweet, happy drink to warm the insides on a cold winters day. The alcohol in it is pretty much boiled out so I assume it to be a child friendly drink.

Now this is the bees knees. It's not huge, but pretty much every store is unique and and
has nice taverns of sorts setup for your festive drinks and simple eats.

Vendors selling all their cheeses and cured meats and boy are they generous with their sample. None of those paper thin slices but good solid chunks. How can one say no to buying some home!

Finally getting my hot dog fix for 40KR (pretty much around there pricing, even compared to the usual street side vendor charges). Beautifully BBQed sausage over charcoal for that unadulterated smokey flavor. Great street side eats amongst the festive mood with great street performances laden throughout the city of Copenhagen.

*Amazing performance at the square with the Christmas Market at the background*

*Christmas music filling the streets*
*All in good fun, street performer.*

Not really a to do, but just popped in to take a look at their grand city hall. After having walked the grounds, it's large impressive halls and murals were quite the sight none the less.

Tivoli

(1.2km from Kongens Nytorv st)
 (yet to be reviewed)

Wikipedia Source *Tivoli Gardens (or simply Tivoli) is a famous amusement park and pleasure garden in Copenhagen, Denmark. The park opened on August 15, 1843 and is
the second oldest amusement park in the world, after Dyrehavsbakken in nearby
Klampenborg.*

The place is most known for its wooden roller coaster and is also a place for the
performing arts.

Rundetarn (The Round Tower)

As the Vor Freslers Kirke (spiraling church yet to be reviewed) was closed during winters due to the slippery ice conditions, the round tower acts as a great substitute for a arial view of the city.

*Vor Freslers Kirke Spiral church at the background*
Located centrally in the heart of the city, this spiral structure used to act as a observatory, but has since lost its purpose as light pollution from the city and observation equipment outgrew its usage.

*Frederick's Church seen on the left and reviewed above.*
It's unique spiral structure was to allow for horses to transport library books and equipment up and down.

Worth the side trip at a nominal fee, and to have a picturesque view of the city around it.
